Car tuning is dangerous. Piston engines are harmful when overused. Complete Street Performance’s dyno-tested Camaro ZL1 exploded. In the video, the automobile caught fire. CSP owner Andrew Zurick was trapped in the airbags. CSP needed a fast Camaro ZL1 for Camarofest. The “TreeL1” dyno had 829 horsepower before it exploded. In the film, a thunderous explosion precedes a massive automobile fire—transmission disintegration. Worse, the curtain airbags activated immediately after the fire started. The fire setting off a sensor or the Camaro thinking it had fallen due to the transmission exploding could have triggered off the airbags, making it impossible for Zurick to get out of the car. The driver’s side curtain airbag sliced his shoulder, but he was alright. The crew found automatic transmission oil in the car after extinguishing the fire. A cracked gearbox tail shaft cover may have caused the loud bang. Zurick is right—this tiny burst almost had a purpose. It happened on a dyno, not because it happened. Since the car had stopped, he could get out safely. CSP extinguished the fire fast.
