Volkswagen chose to make a sports sedan from its massive stock of electric car parts to show the world what is possible. The Volkswagen ID.X Performance Concept is a show car that has been changed in terms of power, suspension, and aerodynamics but will never be sold. Volkswagen improved the ID.7 to make the ID.X Performance. It has a front-axle electric engine that works with the ID.7’s standard rear-axle motor to produce 550 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The only ID.7 available for sale has a single motor in the back that puts out 282 horsepower. Adding another motor to the front axle of the ID.X Performance is easy, so a similar engine will likely be made at some point. In addition to getting more power, the ID.X had its wheel track lengthened by 80 mm, its fenders made more comprehensive, and its suspension dropped by 60 mm. Even though the lowering springs are said to be “especially stiff,” a show car’s ride quality does not matter. Inside those flanged wheel wells are bronze-colored 20-inch center-locking wheels that look like they came off a Porsche 911 GT3. Also, the Michelin Pilot Cup 2 R tires that come as an option for the 911 GT3 from the store are very sticky. On the other hand, the VW logo on center-locking wheels is exciting, and I hope that a future performance ID.7 gets them at some point. Porsche might not like seeing its GT3 wheels on a Volkswagen electric car. Aerodynamic parts made of carbon fiber are all over the ID.X Performance. There are side skirts, a large lower front lip, a fixed rear wing made of carbon fiber, and a back diffuser. The front seats are buckets made of carbon fiber that look like they came from a Porsche GT3. Volkswagen will be able to make a car just like the ID.X Performance without any trouble, which was the whole point of showing it off. The VW Group now has all the parts it needs to make an electric racing car that is both elegant and exciting. All Volkswagen has to do is build it.
