Last year, Honda said that two of the 30 electric vehicles (EVs) it wants to sell by 2030 will be sports cars. The first will be a “flagship” replacement for the Acura NSX, and the second will be a “specialty” car with fewer restrictions. A Honda Motor Europe official said the second car could also come out this year.

Tom Gardner, vice president of Honda Motor Europe, told Autocrat, “We love sports cars. “We’re big fans of speed, so we’re thrilled with how well the new Civic Type R is being received. It’s in high demand, and people have said great things about how it’s done.

Watch out for the following: Gardner says that the 75th anniversary of Honda cars will be in 2023 when the S2000 will be released. Who am I to say?

Executives from Honda have already said which of the two sports cars to expect this year. Honda only makes new NSX models when it has something to show or wants to put its name on the line, which requires technology that isn’t yet ready for the market. The CEO of Honda told us last year that the company would make a Type R EV when solid-state batteries are ready. Honda wouldn’t put bad batteries in a Type R, so it’s hard to imagine doing so with a well-known car like the NSX.

Only the “specialty” type is left as a replacement. Unfortunately, there have been no precise details about this car’s appearance. Fans have been asking for the S2000 to return since it was taken off the market in 2009. However, an electric vehicle is likely to be seen as something other than a natural substitute. It would also have to go against the sleek and reliable Mazda MX-5. Another option is that it will look like the 2017 Honda Sports EV concept shown below, but that model will need to be updated.

We know a sports car, possibly an electric one, is coming soon. Since there was nothing between the Civic and the NSX for 14 years, it will be greeted with open arms.
