• Porsche is getting ready to show off the 992.2, a better version of its 911 race car.
  • There will be some versions with a new 3.6-liter engine and a new hybrid setup.
  • You can expect to buy the 992.2 in 2025.

In 2025, Porsche’s famous 911 will get some changes. The 992.2 generation of Porsche’s rear-engine sports car has more power and a few small changes to the way it looks on the outside and inside. The famous flat-six engine in the 911 will be paired with an integrated starter-generator powered by a 48-volt electrical system. This will mark the beginning of the electric age. In the future, though, there will be a high-voltage gasoline-electric powertrain choice. The T-HEV hybrid engine should be in the 911 by 2025.

A new 3.6L engine with a strong hybrid system will power the 2025 Porsche 911

Mixed System

The hybrid system was reportedly created with help from Rimac, a company in which Porsche has a 45 percent stake. It has a 400-volt electrical system, an integrated starter-generator, an electric motor (with 80 to 90 horsepower) that powers the front wheels, and a battery that the gas engine or regenerative braking can charge. The electric propulsion parts of the engine are thought to weigh less than 60 pounds altogether.

The engine is a 3.0-liter flat-six with two turbochargers that makes 395 horsepower. It has been changed to work as a hybrid. You can expect the whole machine to put out about 475 horsepower. The powertrain is too complicated for this type of 911 to have a manual gear, which is a shame. There are rumors that Porsche is working on a more powerful hybrid option that will have a total of more than 520 horsepower. This choice should close the performance gap between the 911 GTS and Turbo models. Both powertrains will also get a lot better.

New engines, both turbo and GTS

We got internal papers that say the current 3.0-liter forced-induction flat-six engines in the GTS and Turbo will be swapped out for a new 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged engine. The current GT3, GT3 RS, and S/T models all have a roaring 4.0-liter engine. A normally aspirated version will soon replace it. It will be out in 2027, and it will be the 992.2 GT3 with 3.6 horsepower. For now, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine will stay in the 992.2 Carrera and Carrera S cars, but it will be a little faster.

A fully electric 911, on the other hand, won’t be on the market for a few years; in fact, this type of engine won’t be on the market for ten years. It will probably have the 998-generation 911 in it. This model will replace the 994-generation model and go on sale in 2028 as a replacement for the 992.
