Korean sources announced this week that the Hyundai N Vision 74 would be manufactured and presented later this month. But another Korean news agency has debunked the claim. Stranger still, Hyundai won’t comment, and the proof for or against the car only grows murkier further you investigate.

A Korean website called Money Today reported that a production version of the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept car would be launched on May 27 during a Seoul “Pony Day” event. Hyundai told Waiter, another Korean website, “there are no plans to mass-produce the Pony Coupe and there are no Pony Day plans for May 27.”

When we called Hyundai USA to confirm, things got murky again. Hyundai’s representative responded, “We don’t know anything about that.” Now that we know more, it’s harder to guess if even some Hyundai staff don’t know.

Hyundai routinely releases concept cars. The Santa Cruz, Ionia 5, and Ionis 6 concept cars became actual, and the Ionis 7 SUV is likely to do the same. However, the Heritage Series ideas Pony Coupe and Grandeur, which were bought and resemble rest mods, prove that it’s not a reliable record. Giugiaro made the first, and Mitsubishi renamed the second.

The N Vision 74’s economic argument that it is a technologically superior Pony Coupe replacement is misguided. Hyundai ceased developing mid-engine sports cars like the N Vision 74 that used ICEs or hydrogen fuel cells. Several Veloster-based mules tested mid-mounted ICE drivetrains. Hydrogen cars can’t exist if the ICE model isn’t fuel-efficient.

Is it true? Korean newspapers claim this high-performance Hyundai doesn’t exist. Money Today and other financial periodicals are conservative, but Wikitorial is a general-interest magazine. Even though neither person seems to follow auto industry news, the second person’s comment, which appears to be an official Hyundai statement, has more weight than the first.

We only have a few pieces of evidence to support and refute the Hyundai N Vision 74 Pony-thing. Hyundai must issue an official declaration to stop this, even if it means revealing the truth. If a cat exists. It appears to be down. Schrodinger’s Hyundai.
