Sources say that in 2025, Kia will bring out a new pickup truck in Australia. Drive says the company confirmed the news in a secret meeting with dealers. It may or may not be sold in the United States, but it could go up against the Ford Ranger elsewhere. Australia is getting ready to get a new pickup truck from Kia. Drive, an Australian magazine, says Kia has told dealers to expect a “real and serious competitor” to Australia’s famous mid-size Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger trucks. Even though this new crew-cab model will not do well in the US, we want to learn more about it before it sells in 2025. The official name hasn’t been released yet, but dealers have been told that the secret model code for the new truck is “TK.” Reports say they were also told the car would have a diesel engine and a new ladder-frame body. Because Kia and Hyundai only sell a few types of diesel on the international market, the number of machines offered is much smaller. The 3.0-liter inline-six diesel found in international versions of the Genesis GV80 and the four-cylinder diesel found in the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe may be offered. The new car will likely look less like the 2004 KCV4 Mojave design at the top and more like other mid-sized trucks on the market today. The Drive has photos of a crew-cab model with a big, flat front end that spies took. When talking to the media, the truck’s maker only says that the car is real, even though it gives its Australian dealers more information. Kia is making a compelling and valuable pickup truck model right now. Kia told Drive that they would provide more details as soon as possible. Hyundai may think about making its version of this new car. The only model, the company, sells in the United States is the Santa Cruz pickup, a small unibody truck with the same frame as other Hyundai crossovers. Kia’s new truck for the Australian market won’t be on sale for at least a year, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what it offers. We wouldn’t hold our breath waiting for it to come to America. Still, if Kia enters the tough mid-size truck market here, where the newly redesigned Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado are already competing, things could get interesting.
