Ford CEO Jim Farley shared a video of the company’s new race car, the Mustang GT3, doing a lap at Sebring. We’ve never seen or heard about Ford’s new factory GT3 car since September. Farley also asked a hypothetical question on Twitter that made it sound like the GT3 car might one day be able to be driven on the road. Don’t move from where you are. Turn up the sound on your device and enjoy the beautiful V-8 music. Today, Ford CEO Jim Farley shared a video of the soon-to-be-raced Mustang GT3 at Sebring. The sound is fantastic. This is the first factory GT3 Mustang we’ve seen or, more importantly, heard since Ford announced in September that it was going to make six new race versions of the S650 Mustang. Even though the public will see the GT3 in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2024, Ford is already getting people excited. Ford Performance and Multimatic are working together to make this GT3 version. It will be driven by a 5.4-liter Coyote V-8 that has been changed and bored out. In the pictures, you can see that a Mustang has to undergo many changes to fight in 24-hour races like Daytona and Le Mans. Big fenders surround a set of solid race tires, and the whole body is made of lightweight carbon fiber. The front of the car has a sharp lip, and the back has a giant diffuser. The best part of the car’s look is the rear wing, which is connected to the back pillars instead of the trunk lid. Ford clarified that the GT3 car is related to the future Mustang Dark Horse, even though it is a race car with a proven track record. But we already knew that race cars looked and sounded like nothing else. Farley’s second tweet was the part that caught my attention the most. After Ford CEO Mark Fields posted the GT3 film clip, he returned to Twitter and asked his followers, “Should Ford make a road version?” Mr. Farley. We all agree. A resounding “yes.” Send your first sample to Car and Driver immediately.
