During the world-famous hill climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, at least one vehicle manages to consume hay every year. This year, the Hyundai RN22e, an electric race car based on the Ioniq 6, was the first car to go off the road and crash into the safety haystacks. The accident occurred at the beginning of the race. There, electric racing cars from Hyundai’s N Division can be displayed to the public for the first time, such as the Ioniq 5 N, which also debuted at Goodwood. The RN22e mowed some of the grass when it turned too quickly and skidded into the hay around a minute and a half into the ascent of the hill. This is why haystacks exist, which can absorb a significant amount of power without endangering the driver or inflicting excessive damage to the vehicles. After the collision, it was difficult to determine how severely the RN22e had been damaged. Still, it was obvious that some of the vehicle’s exterior components had been left behind in the hay. The driver will be fine, which is a relief. It is simple to understand why the Hyundai RN22e went into the turn at such a high rate of speed. A little more than three seconds is all it takes for the quick electric Hyundai to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour. It is equipped with two electric motors, each with 577 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque. In addition to these upgrades, the suspension has been tuned specifically for the racetrack, there is significantly more air in the tires, and they are made by Pirelli and are called P Zero Corsa. A significant number of Hyundai employees are currently present at Goodwood, where the company’s N Division is exhibiting a variety of electric vehicles. Unfortunately, one of its vehicles collided with the barrier, which is a shame because it would have been a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate Hyundai’s innovative and cutting-edge speed technology. It is expected that another car will eat some hay as the Festival of Speed continues; hence, it is unlikely that Hyundai will be alone for an extended period. That will not make up for the fact that they crashed when the Hyundai N Division was at a critical juncture.
