• The Roadster was a battery-powered Lotus Elise with a new body.
  • At the time, it was an essential first for Tesla. This is a desirable later 2.5 model that just got full service by a skilled Tesla Roadster mechanic.
  • April 17 is the last day to bid.

When people talk about what makes an excellent long-term collector car, they often talk about what to do when the gas shops close. This intelligent electric sports car doesn’t have to worry about running out of gas. Today, a 2011 Tesla Roadster 2.5 Sport is for sale on Bring A Trailer, owned by Hearst Autos like Car and Driver. People say that this car is the Shelby Cobra of the 21st century.

Before the Shelby purists get their pitchforks and torches out of the attic, let’s show that it’s true. Like the original Cobra, the Tesla Roadster has an upgraded motor and a British-made frame. This makes it a frighteningly fast illusion of speed. Even though the Tesla has volts instead of V-8s and Lotus Elise wheels instead of AC, the basics of Southern California hot rodding are still the same. Engineers left the shed where the first Roadster prototypes were made and went to look for Corvettes. Carroll Shelby would have liked this.

The similarity starts to fall apart after that. The Cobra went on to be a well-known race car, but the Roadster was the first car made by a company that wanted to make electric cars for many people. But both businesses’ leaders are self-promoters and have significantly affected the auto business.

Please, about the car. The 2011 2.5 model of this Roadster is much better than the previous model. There were changes to the engine and air conditioning, more insulation, and a new exterior to help the car handle hot weather better.

The Gruber Motor Company in Phoenix, Arizona, also worked on this car. Tesla doesn’t care about the Roadster’s history since they sent one into space for internet points—this lack of interest leaves room for professionals like Gruber, a well-known shop.

Gruber’s level two work includes fixing worn parts from a list of more than 50 components and fixing different engineering problems. Regarding combustion engines, it’s like a breakdown and restart of the machine. The repair was done in May of last year, so whoever buys this Roadster should be able to drive it better than when it was brand new.

Even though Tesla now sells a faster car, the Roadster Sport’s time of 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph is still fantastic. The 53 kWh battery pack gives the vehicle a range of about 200 miles, while the 288 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from the motor drive the rear wheels through a single-speed gearbox.

This Roadster is a fun, fast convertible ready for a world where everything runs on energy. Even more important, it’s not just a toy; it’s part of the past of cars. When you go to your local cars and coffee meetup, everyone from Gen-Zers to a few older people in Shelby T-shirts will praise you.
