Action films are fun for people to buy fast cars. In the early 2000s, BMW used this in the TV show The Hire, which starred Clive Owens and famous stars like Forest Whitaker, Madonna, and Don Cheadle. Fast BMWs like the E39 M5 were used in action-packed chase scenes in the show. With its new short, “The Calm,” the company is back on the big screen. The Calm is the first movie that BMW Films has made in seven years. The Cannes Film Festival will host its international premiere on Wednesday.

The new BMW i7 M70 drive, a high-performance version of BMW’s latest electric luxury car, is the movie’s star. According to BMW, it has 650 horsepower and can allegedly reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The short teaser shows a not-so-subtle orange i7 drifting beautifully over dirt while being chased by bikers who look dangerous.

Uma Thurman, known for her parts in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, and Poem Klementieff, who plays Mantis in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, play the main characters in The Calm. Sam Hargrave, a stunt coordinator on several Marvel movies, was in charge of The Calm. Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Top Gun: Maverick, was in charge of making it. Hans Zimmer, a well-known musician who made the acceleration sounds in BMW’s most recent EVs, was also hired by BMW to write the score.

In the seven-minute film, two secret agents are attacked by people they don’t know while attending a meeting in Cannes. After being tried to be hijacked in the back of the i7 M70, Klementieff character joins forces with Thurman’s character to finish their dangerous task.

The opening of The Calm at the Cannes Film Festival will only be shown on the 31-inch, 8K “Theatre Screen” in the back of a BMW i7. The company will bring 200 i7s to show the movie to people in the second row. On May 17, the entire video will be on BMW’s YouTube account.
