The UAW is currently on strike at two big assembly plants that make some of General Motors’ and Stellantis’ most profitable cars. After the strike spread to Stellantis’ Arlington, Texas, plant, which assembles GM’s full-size SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade, workers there went on strike too. The Sterling Heights, Michigan, plant makes the Ram 1500 full-size pickup truck.

Because of the UAW strike, the GM Full-Size SUV and Stellantis Ram 1500 plants are closed

The UAW says that 5,500 workers at the GM Arlington plant and 6,800 at the Stellantis Sterling Heights plant are on strike right now. The union says Stellantis’ offer is lower than GM and Ford’s and is the “worst proposal on the table” regarding wage increases and other financial issues. They also say that GM’s current offer needs to reward workers more for their contributions to the company’s success.

General Motors said that “the current offer is the most significant that GM has ever proposed to the UAW.” Stellantis replied by pulling out of several significant car events and shows, such as the upcoming Los Angeles auto show, the SEMA aftermarket show, and the CES technology show. The company said the cancellations were due to higher costs due to the strike.
