For its third collaboration with New York City streetwear brand Kith, BMW has unveiled a limited-edition XM SUV along with a unique, custom-built 1981 M1 sports car at the 2024 Miami Art Week. A limited edition of just 47 units of the XM Kith will be manufactured, each featuring either a striking dark purple shade known as Frozen Techno Violet or a semi-matte color called Frozen Black. Both versions will showcase subtle Kith logos and other exclusive design elements. Kith will also release a new apparel line showcasing BMW-inspired designs to complement the cars. At the 2024 Miami Art Week event, BMW and Kith will showcase a limited-edition XM SUV and a high-end streetwear line. The two companies have also worked on the M4 Competition and the electric i4 car. Kith founder Ronnie Fieg showed off a collection of old BMWs along with the XM Kith special version. The most interesting thing, though, is a one-of-a-kind restoration and customization of BMW’s famous M1 sports car, which includes matched paint and other cosmetic changes. 47 XM Kith types can be ordered, but the M1 is not for sale. A very small group of lucky customers will be able to pick between Frozen Techno Violet and H20 Black. Violet, a deep purple that is said to be unique to this special edition model, is our favorite color. Kith logos can be seen all over the design, on the headrests, the center panel wrapped in carbon fiber, and the trunk lid. The inside is mostly black Merino leather, and the seats, arms, and back-seat pillows all have Kith symbols pressed into them. A numbered plaque on the doorsill guards says how rare the model is, as well as a modified M badge with Kith monogramming. A plug-in hybrid engine that can produce up to 738 horsepower powers the XM Kith and all other XMs. In our test car, which weighed 6054 pounds, it took the XM less than 3.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. The low-slung M1, on the other hand, has an inline-six engine that only makes 277 horsepower and weighs almost half as much as the XM. Even so, the famous sports car got to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds in our tests. The price of the XM Kith has yet to be announced, but the base model SUV costs $160,175 at the dealership, so it would be a surprise if the one-of-a-kind car costs $100,000. We’ll add to this story later this week after seeing the Kith outfit that goes with it.
