A German luxury automaker, BMW, plans to begin EV production in India. A senior BMW executive has confirmed the company’s intention to begin EV production in India. According to the official, there has been an increase in the demand for BMW’s EVs. A PTI report claims that in the first six months of 2023, India accounted for 9 percent of BMW’s global sales. This figure will increase to 25% by 2025, the source said. As sales and demand increase, BMW Group India president Vikram Pawah stated in an interview that the business would develop and produce electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The volume of sales in India and the technology’s safety are considered during the localization process. In the first half of 2023, BMW sold over 500 electric vehicles (EVs), including the i7, iX, i4, and MINI SE. Pawah stressed, however, that there is room for development and stability in the technique. BMW has been at the forefront of research into electric vehicle technologies ever since the first EVs debuted in 2013. Battery production has advanced to the fifth generation. Pawah is optimistic about the future even though just 8-9% of BMW sales in India are electric automobiles. From the current 15%, he predicts EV sales will increase to as much as 20-25% by 2025. In the first six months of 2023, BMW sold 5,867 luxury vehicles in India under the BMW and MINI brands. Pawah predicts that the percentage of EV sales to overall sales would increase as the firm introduces more EVs from other countries to the Indian market.
