BMW’s recent bold designs, such as the BMW XM, 7 Series, and the newly released Neue Klasse, were a significant change from the company’s usual style, for better or worse. Some BMW fans don’t like the new look of their favorite Bavarian brand, but others love it. No matter how you feel about a BMW’s appearance, we can all agree that these 16 classic BMWs from BMW UK’s collection are some of the company’s best.

These 16 cars show why BMW has been such a popular name for many years. Aside from looking simple and classic, most of these cars were real drivers’ cars without any tech-focused extras that come with current BMWs.

The first car from the M Division, the BMW M1, is where it all began. In the 1970s, BMW tried to build a car with an engine in the middle to fight in the Group 4 GT championship. When the M1 was finally done, Group 4 had already fallen apart, so BMW had a race car but no race to drive it in. So, the supercar created by Giugiaro became one of BMW’s most significant commercial failures and a fan favorite at the same time.

The BMW Z8 was a one-of-a-kind car in the company’s history because it was never replaced. The Z8, which Henrik Fisker made, looks much like the BMW 507, the company’s first “grand touring roadster.” The Z8 is one of BMW’s most beautiful designs, and it still looks as good now as it did when it came out in 1999.

The “Batmobile” 3.0 CSL may be BMW’s most attractive car. Before the M1, BMW made a touring car called the 3.0 CSL that was a big hit and still looks good. It became famous for its almost perfect proportions, shark-nose front end, and massive back wing. It was even better because it had a solid straight-six engine of 3.0 liters.

The E34-generation M5, which I used to hate but have grown to like in recent years, is another car that BMW UK shows off. The E34 M5 was the second-to-last M5 to be built by hand and the last M5 to have a six-cylinder engine. Since then, all M5s have had V8 or V10 engines. Its simple, boxy design from the 1990s is still in good shape, and its simple mechanical layout is handy now that current M5s are all-wheel drive and are even starting to go hybrid.

The 1 Series M, the 2002 Turbo, the E30 M3, the E46 M3 CSL, the E92 M3 GTS, the E39 M5, the E60 M5, the F10 M5, the 635 CSi, Additionally included in this collection are the BMW Z1, the Mini JCW GP1, and the Mini JCW GP2 models. You can look at their gallery and learn more about them here.
