After 2030, many British brands will have to adapt. Due to the Inflation Reduction Act, European officials will require them to relocate production to battery-producing countries like China, mainland Europe, and possibly North America. English car industry changes will severely hit volume producers like Stellantis, Ford, and Renault-Nissan. Aston Martin, McLaren, and Lotus may fare well despite JLR’s steep decline in output, foreign investors acquiring control of them, and cash-rich German OEMs like Bentley, Mini, and Rolls-Royce dominating the market. It’s time to examine how EVs will influence some UK-based luxury firms.

Aston Martins

Capital Markets Day on June 27 will feature new Aston automobiles. The DB12, revised Vantage, no-longer-made Valkyrie Spider, and elegant DBR22 are examples. A 2025 electric sports car sketch is also available. Power PHEV AM will be the first plug-in hybrid automobile. First are Valhalla and DBX. A new infotainment display will replace the Mercedes MMI.

Aston Martin is developing a “groundbreaking” four-seater GT and a “high-performance super-luxury GT.” Head and strategist Lawrence Stroll says.

A redesigned Vanquish may top the DBS. Instead of the mid-engine Vanquish, it is currently available as a unique front-engine car. After the 2020 one-off, it will be called “Baby Victor.” It might mark Aston Martin’s 110th birthday at £1.2 million. A pair of mid-engine, two-seater sports cars with a T-shaped battery stack to lower the centre of gravity and drive low are also in development. The first is a plug-in hybrid; the second is electric.

Bentley

Bentley’s first standalone EV may be the Bentayga in 2026. All Volkswagen Group premium brands will use Porsche’s cutting-edge SSP61 matrix. CEO Adrian Hallmark promises five electric Bentleys by 2030. We expect big Continental GT and Flying Spur facelifts before then. V-6 hybrids will gain speed, power, and range next year. Bentley may obtain Audi and Porsche’s more powerful V-8 hybrid. The luxury Batur coupe (pictured) offers style inspiration.

Despite their secrecy, we expect five or six battery-powered automobiles from the British. After the Bentayga comes out in 2026, the Crewe rumour mill predicts an electric Continental GT replacement in 2027 and an electric Flying Spur in 2028. The business might make its next automobile more opulent by resembling the Mulsanne. Another top-secret model could be a Rolls-Royce Cullinan-like premium SUV. These EVs should have fast-charging batteries, 450-mile ranges, and power and speed boosts. Bentley might increase production from 15,000 to 20,000 cars per year by 2030 with these additional models.

Jaguar

Jaguar will solely build electric cars in 2025. Three new models will use Panthera’s sophisticated JEA basis. The new high-voltage game plan includes two SUVs in 2025 and 2026 (shown below) and a four-door luxury sports car. Jaguar intends to compete with Porsche’s electrified Panamera, Cayenne, and Macan models. Fast charging, compatibility with high-performance SVR, level 3 autonomous driving, and a custom software design that permits full communication are all crucial.

New brand leader Rawdon Glover has a tale. Dealers and customers are losing faith in another vague attempt to turn things around. The plot remains uncertain. The fully scalable JEA platform allows for many sizes, shapes, and drivetrain combinations, but the marketing approach, user experience, and product highlights have yet to be revealed. Land Rover and Range Rover’s creative director Gerry McGovern may help.

Land Rover

Land Rover’s first electric SUV, the Range Rover, will be plug-in only in 2019. Most Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles will switch to the lighter 800-volt EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) skateboard matrix, which is better for road use. The completely trail-rated MLA Flex platform will underpin Range Rover and the electrified Range Rover Sport. It makes sense, but why construct Range Rover and Jaguar on distinct platforms when the technical specs are the same and economies of scale are essential?

Land Rover, like Jaguar, will have completely electric automobiles by 2025. The Velar (2025) and Evoque (2026) will be electric. A UK factory under construction will make high-energy power packs. Electric cars were late to the Discovery Sport and Discovery. They use EMA batteries.

Lotus

The Eletre crossover, launched in China, is the second electric Lotus after the Evija hypercar. The Type 135, which resembles the gas-powered Emira, will follow. The fate of the 2027 and 2028 SUVs constructed together is unknown. Geely owns Lotus. Lotus’ Type 133 sedan will compete with the revamped Porsche Taycan later this year. According to sources, the Lotus with four doors will share parts with the 2024 Polestar 5 GT. After that, Type 134 appears briefly. Both CUVs use the parent company’s SEA platform, while the others use the brand’s EPA (Electric Premium Architecture) kit.

McLaren

McLaren is struggling. Hybrid system issues and the bankruptcy of the primary battery source delayed the Artura racing car. The Ricardo-engined 750S won’t start earning money until 2024. The Saudi Arabian PIF government fund is impatient. Michael Leiters, McLaren’s CEO, said the 2028 SUV project is still seeking a partner. Lucid, also controlled by PIF, maybe a logical candidate now that BMW has pulled out, as adding a crossover is vital for long-term growth.

The P1’s successor may arrive in a few years. It should challenge Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. The new fast-regen hybrid system is lighter and more efficient, producing four-figure power. Electric sports car? Leiters claims it will only work once new batteries are smaller and lighter.

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce leads the ultra-luxury EV GP after releasing the Spectre. It beats the Cadillac Celestia, Maybach EQS, and the first electric Bentley. In 2025 and 2026, Rolls-Royce will deliver Series II Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan models. Spring 2027 brings the Spectre convertible. Its late inclusion made conversion harder. The 2026, 2027, and 2028 all-electric Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Phantom, and Ghost will share a platform. Why isn’t Rolls using BMW’s 2025 Neue Klasse platform’s most oversized version to save money? Because matched parts won’t be available until 2029.
