• The Bugatti Mistral has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the fastest roofless car in the world, reaching an astonishing speed of 282 mph.
  • The historic achievement occurred on November 9 at the ATP Automotive Testing facility located in Papenburg, Germany.
  • The Mistral is basically a Bugatti Chiron with a new body and no roof. It has the same 8.0-liter W-16 quad-turbo engine that makes 1578 horsepower.

How fast would you be willing to drive a car? 100 mph or 200 mph? Is the fact that there is no roof a role in that number, even if you’re on a closed course with medical staff around? Andy Wallace, who is Bugatti’s official test driver, didn’t have any trouble going fast with the top off. He broke the open-top car world record on November 9 by going 282 mph in a 2024 Bugatti Mistral.

Bugatti Mistral Reaches 282 MPH, Setting The Record As The Fastest Roofless Car In The World

Wallace and the Mistral achieved a record-breaking performance on the 7.64-mile oval track at the ATP Automotive Testing Facility in Papenburg, Germany.  Bugatti says Wallace used all 1578 horsepower of the Mistral on the straight after coming up to the bank at a set speed of 124 mph.

Even though Bugatti had set many world records over the years, the Mistral owner had never been to one. Bugatti said in a news release that Wallace took the owner for one more short lap after the official run. The company says that this is the fastest passenger ride ever.

Bugatti views the Mistral as marking the end of an era. When the company stopped making the Chiron, it made 99 Mistrals to mark the end of the quad-turbo W-16 engine. Each of the 99 Mistrals cost $5 million to buy at first.

It’s not the same as the Chiron; the Mistral has no roof and is otherwise very different. Its front end looks more powerful than the Chiron’s because it has been changed. One thing that stays the same between the two types is the engine. Bugatti kept the 8.0-liter W-16 engine with four turbochargers that make 1578 horsepower. Two automatic transmissions, each with seven speeds, send power to all four wheels.

Bugatti told Invoice Pricing that when the car came out in 2022, it was meant to beat the 2013 Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse record of 254 mph. We’re done with the job.
