People often use the Nissan Altima as a joke. It’s a typical cheap used car that people drive and keep in bad shape because they don’t have much money. A new report, however, says that Nissan may soon stop making the legendary midsize car, which could mean that its days are numbered.

Automotive News shared the expected end date for the Altima as part of its ongoing research into future product pipelines. This research is based on information from manufacturers and other sources. Nissan plans to stop making the Altima in 2025, but no clear alternative exists. This way, the Altima will come after the Nissan Maxima, which will also stop being made this year. Automotive News says that Nissan will release a new, unnamed electric car in 2026. However, there is no sign that it will be called the Altima.

It asked Nissan to tell it what would happen to the Altima. “The Altima got a refresh in the fall of 2022, with new technology and a new look.” A Nissan employee said that we are working on many exciting things to help us reach our Ambition 2030 goal, but we have yet to show anything to show right now. “We continue to invest in the sedan market in order to provide our customers with attractive vehicles that are equipped with technologies that make driving simpler, more enjoyable, and safer.”

The current version of the Altima started making cars in 2018 for the 2019 model year. This makes it a relatively new vehicle. It got a new look and better entertainment features last fall. It’s a good car with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Its main purpose is transportation.

The Altima has the same image as the Toyota Camry because it is also a basic sedan that is easy to get into. On the other hand, the Altima has a reputation for being harder to drive, and both the car and its owners have become popular topics for automotive memes.

This image has grown because some Altimas do get themselves into dangerous situations. This year, a Nissan Altima jumped off a stopped tow truck and flew 120 feet before it hit another Nissan Altima. The driver wasn’t belted either.

At least in its current form, only a few car fans will miss the Altima. If Nissan had made them more like the short-lived SE-R from the mid-2000s, history may remember them differently. Those who don’t like the idea of the careless Altima driver may be glad to see it disappear. Most people who want to buy a car that costs between $20,000 and $30,000 will also have fewer choices if another simple, inexpensive car goes away.

The Altima is coming to an end, for better or for worse.
