For the 2024 model year, Polestar makes the 2.’s range and power even better. Before, the base model only had a single motor that drove the front wheels. Now, the rear wheels are driven by default. The range of the version with one motor has been increased to 300 miles, and the content of the performance with two engines has been increased to 270 miles. Polestar has been making improvements to the two since it came out, and for the 2024 model year, some significant changes have increased the range and power of the four-door hatchback. There are also some tools and ways to change the way it looks. The base single-motor model now has 299 horsepower, up from 231. The dual-motor model now has 421 horsepower, up from 408 horsepower before, and the 2 with the Performance package now has 455 horsepower. More importantly, the electric motor in the car with only one motor now drives the back wheels instead of the front. Polestar says that even all-wheel-drive vehicles with two engines now favor the back more and can turn off the front motor in certain situations. We can’t wait to put the new cars through their paces to see how the switch to rear-wheel drive (and the new AWD system) affects their handling. The company says that each model will be faster than the one before it. Using a bigger battery, the single-motor car’s range can be increased from 270 miles to 300 miles. The dual-motor vehicles still use the same battery, but Polestar says that efficiency improvements have made it possible for the cars to go a little further than before. The EPA’s estimate has gone up from 260 miles to 270 miles. Polestar hasn’t said how much it will cost yet, but it will be a little more than the current car, which starts at $49,800 for a single motor and $53,300 for two. But you’ll get more for your money because the Pilot package is now standard on the dual-motor car and driver-assistance technologies are now standard on the base car. Polestar says the new vehicle will be available later this year.
