The Cadillac Celestiq priced Rolls-Royce, which made me skeptical. Cadillac had never made cars this cheap before. That’s true—the Celestiq starts at $340,000.

Cadillac’s global chief marketing officer, Melissa Grady Dias, announced on LinkedIn this week that each automobile will be customizable, like a Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

Since Celestiq’s release, demand has been tremendous. This personalized tour lets customers tailor their Celestiq to reflect their personality. “Celestiq’s feel depends on how much the customer curates it, while a blank board will start at about $340,000 MSRP,” Dias added.

Customers can personalize their cars as their finest Celestiq-certified dealer guides them through buying. It needs to be determined how configurable it will be and if it will compete with luxury automobiles like Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which can use your yard tree as trim.

With driving or sitting in one, it’s easier to know if the Celestiq will meet purchasers’ expectations at that pricing point. It makes logical on paper. The EPA-estimated 260-mile range for the Rolls-Royce Spectre’s 102-kilowatt-hour battery. This beats the 111-kilowatt-hour battery’s 300-mile range. Its 680 horsepower exceeds the Spectre is 577 horsepower and 3.8-second 0-60 mph time.

GM’s Warren Technical Center will hand-assemble the Cadillac Celestiq. Dias’s tweet picture shows Cadillac’s color, upholstery, and trim selections. They’re unusual. However, a $340,000 electrified luxury automobile with “Hand Built in Michigan” on the door sill will draw notice.
