At the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen showed off the new 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs. The exterior design of the five- and seven-seater crossovers has been updated, and they now have new wheels and a more luxurious interior. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which was an option, is no longer for sale. The only engine option will be a 269-hp, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The Volkswagen Atlas is a three-row SUV that has been updated before. It came out for the 2018 model year and got a minor update in 2021 to match the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport with two rows of seats. But this time, VW’s designers have made many more changes to the most powerful SUV. Make sure it fits. The Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport look more modern because they have new grilles, C-shaped headlights, and taillights covering the car’s width. Except for the base model, all models have a light bar across the top of the grille and a front VW logo that lights up. The SUV has new wheels on all four corners ranging from 18 to 21 inches. A more prominent rear spoiler has been added to the Atlas to give it a more curved roof. More significant changes will be seen inside, where Volkswagen has added more excellent materials and more convenience features to make the ride better for passengers. Wide strips of decorative plastic or wood trim go around the door panels, and fake leather covers the dashboard and center console. As part of a new ambient lighting system, there is now an option for an excellent backlit section of the dashboard. All models have a standard 10.3-inch digital gauge display and a 12.0-inch infotainment display. A head-up presentation can be added as an extra feature. All Atlas models have a wireless charging pad for smartphones, at least six USB-C charging ports, and a wireless infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Climate Control Via Voice The passenger seat can now be adjusted for height, the steering wheel can be heated, and the front seats can be cooled. Also, the voice-activated automatic climate control system is great for Super Bowl commercials, but it has a history of being awkward and unreliable in other cars with similar features. The only engine option for the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport is a new 269-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. In the previous models, you could choose between a 235-hp turbo four-cylinder or a 276-hp 3.6-liter V-6. All trims still come standard with front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive can be added as an extra. Even though the EPA hasn’t said anything about the turbo four’s gas mileage, VW says it should be better than the model it’s replacing. The Atlas can still pull up to 5000 pounds and pull the same loads. In the second half of the year, you can buy it. Volkswagen has yet to say how much the 2024 Atlas and 2024 Atlas Cross Sport will cost when they go on sale in the third quarter of 2023. Due to the upgrades, the base price will be only $35,755 more than what the 2023 Atlas Cross Sport starts at. The three-row Atlas should be higher than the base price of the 2023 model, which is $36,455.
