• The 2025 Porsche Taycan can go much farther on a single charge thanks to better batteries and an electric motor in the back.
  • The most powerful Taycan Turbo S type has 938 horsepower.
  • Prices range from $101,395 to $213,695 right now.

We have loved the Porsche Taycan since it came out in 2019, but we are aware of some of its flaws. The most noticeable of these has always been the short range compared to other high-end EVs on the market. We’ve already shown that the current Taycan can go further than its EPA rating. The new model coming out in 2025 will have even better performance and range, along with the usual style and technical updates. We were able to test drive the new engine in a pre-production Taycan last week in California, so we can now give you more information.

Changes made to the 2025 Porsche Taycan boost its speed and range

There are only small changes to the way it looks. New LED headlights and redesigned front bumpers have been added to the Taycan. On the back of the more expensive cars, the full-width light bar will now have a lit red “PORSCHE” lettering. People who buy cheaper cars will also be able to pay extra for this. There will also be fake vents built into the sides of the Turbo S’s back bumper. The way they are placed and how big they are make the aerodynamics better, even though they don’t add any extra cooling.

Better batteries and power sources

All types of Taycan get brand-new batteries. The basic pack will have 83.6 kWh, which is a more usable capacity. With the new Performance battery pack, which comes standard on the Turbos but is optional on the base and 4S Taycan, the usable energy goes up to 97.0 kWh at that point. The new battery pack has a higher nickel percentage than the old one, but it stays the same size and has a much higher capacity. Porsche says this is the reason why the new Performance battery is 19 pounds lighter than the old one. It is said that the Turbo S has 33 pounds less curb weight in total, even though it comes with more standard features.

When hooked up to a strong 800-volt DC fast charger, the Taycan can now be charged at an amazing 320 kW. Batteries can also be charged more quickly when the temperature is lower. As of now, a 150-kW DC/DC adapter will come as standard, which will make charging faster on 400-volt networks.

The range has grown thanks to both bigger battery packs and more efficient powertrains. While we wait for EPA numbers, European WLTP numbers show that the rear-drive Taycan with the Performance battery will now go 421 miles, which is 108 miles farther than before. The Turbo S will also go 391 miles, which is 391 miles farther than before. The larger battery rear-drive prototype would be able to go about 320 miles based on our realistic 75-mph range test.

A new rear motor that is smaller and more powerful has been added. This is the other major hardware change. It does, however, have the unusual trait of a two-speed transmission that helps save gas at higher speeds. The rear-wheel-drive model still has a top speed of 402 mph, but you can now get to full speed without using the launch control mode. Porsche says it takes 4.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, which is 0.6 seconds faster than what the company said for the first RWD model.

The Turbo S can get more power, but it has to be opened slowly. With the new push-to-pass feature in the Sport Chrono pack, the base “always there” output from the two motors goes up to 764 horsepower. To get an extra 93 horsepower for up to 10 seconds, press a button on the steering wheel’s drive mode selector. For even more power, use the launch control mode. An over-boost function raises the top speed to 938 hp and 808 lb-ft of torque. (The Turbo S that was going had 774 pound-feet of torque and 750 horsepower.) Considering that we were able to reach 60 mph in 2.4 seconds with the original Turbo S, we expect a big boost.

Upgrades and Other Levels of Trim

We’ll have to wait for more information, but the Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo will join the base model and Turbo S. The Cross Turismo, which looks like a wagon, and the Taycan car will both be sold in the US. However, the Cross Turismo will not be available with rear-wheel drive. The Taycan GTS will also be back on the list. In the United States, this is the only way to get the Sport Turismo wagon body type without armor right now.

Adjustable dampers and air suspension are two other hardware improvements that come standard on all models. The old model’s 48-volt electrical system has been swapped out for a new electro-hydraulic system called Active Ride. An anti-roll system will still be offered as an option, though. Along with reducing roll, this will change the pitch and dive when stopping and speeding up. It will also add a feature called “curve tilt” that is said to slightly lean the Taycan into curves (some Mercedes models now have this feature too). Unfortunately, Porsche thinks that letting people use only one pedal to drive would ruin the driving experience, so the updated Taycan will not have this feature. We both agree that having the choice would be good.

There are new screens inside

Small changes are only made on the inside. The extra screen on the passenger side now has a new filter that only lets people in the passenger seat see it. This means drivers will be able to watch movies while they drive legally. The digital gauges have been updated, and we can now guess the fastest charging rate the car can keep up based on the condition of the battery. The next-generation Apple CarPlay+ is one of the improvements to the user interface. It will let you handle the climate from inside the system. The unique guidance system in Porsche cars also lets drivers set goal energy levels and plan accurate routes around charging stations.

In addition, prices have gone up. The Taycan Turbo will cost $175,595, the Taycan 4S will cost $120,495, the base Taycan with rear-wheel drive will cost $101,395, and the Taycan Turbo S will cost $210,995. The Cross Turismo, which is similar, will cost $2700 more and not come with rear-wheel drive. The least expensive type is the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, which costs $113,095 with a soft top. It starts in the winter with delivery.
