GM has been teasing a bunch of new off-road cars that are more extreme. Chevy recently showed off a disguised Colorado at the end of the 2023 Colorado ZR2 off-road drive. Based on the fact that “Bison” was written on the rear dampers, we know this is the upcoming 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison. During the Canyon AT4X drive in 2023, GMC probably showed off its version of an American Expedition Vehicles-equipped Canyon AT4X. Isn’t the subject there?

The 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is coming, and GMC has stated that the whole story will be told on July 6, 2023. Above is a second teaser picture that shows the front grille, suspension, and bottom of the car from a low angle.

Even though there aren’t many details yet, we know that the Canyon AT4X AEV will have the up fitter’s Salta wheels, as seen in the first video, and that GMC went to great lengths to hide almost the whole vehicle by putting it in full body suit. It shouldn’t be a surprise that you can also get these wheels on the 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty AT4X AEV Edition and the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition, which is already on the market. The Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires are 35 inches long. There were also full-length steel rocker guards, like on a normal AT4X.

The most current public preview backs up much of what we already thought. The stock front bumper on the Canyon AT4X will be replaced with an AEV high-clearance steel bumper. GMC’s Canyon AT4X First Edition has a Coeur electric recovery winch behind the bumper. When we look under the car, we can see skid plates for the engine, transfer case, fuel tank, and a better front bash plate. They may be hot-stamped AEV parts made of boron steel. The rear differential skid on the new Colorado ZR2 Bison, which is coming out soon, is also missing. We also know that the truck’s suspension will be raised a little more than the AT4X’s already high height to handle the heavy rolling stock. According to this new picture, the excellent Multimeric DSSV shocks will also stay on the truck, though they may need to be returned to handle the bigger tires.

We’re sure the back of the truck will have an AEV steel hood, even though we can’t see it from here. It will undoubtedly have an extra wheel and a full-size tire that goes with it. There will also be a snorkel or a way to get fresh air.

From 2023 on, the truck will have the same 2.7-liter turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic gearbox as the regular Canyon series. Because the Goodyear tires have a bigger width, the ground clearance will go up by about 8 inches at the differential and 11 inches at the body. The approach, exit, and break-over angles will get better. On July 6, we’ll know for sure.

This post was first released on May 1, 2023. Since then, it has been changed to include the release date of the AT4X AEV Edition and new photos from GMC that show the vehicle in its entirety.
