Fisker, a new company that makes electric cars, is having trouble with its earnings call for the fourth quarter and the whole year of 2023 on Thursday. There is “substantial doubt about Fisker’s ability to continue as a going concern,” the company said. They said this because Fisker has a lot of cash on hand.

EV company Fisker gives a bad outlook for its 2023 earnings call

During the fourth quarter, the company made $200 million in sales, but less than expected, so it lost $463 million overall. The company said it would lay off 15% of its staff to save money. Fisker might have to lay off more people in the future.

The new dealer model needs to work

“To the extent, Fisker’s current resources are insufficient to satisfy its requirements over the next 12 months, the company will need to seek additional equity or debt financing, and there can be no assurance that Fisker will be successful in these efforts,” according to a statement released by the company. It is “highly dependent” on Fisker’s new Dealer Partner plan being put into place successfully by 2024. In January, the company said that it would stop selling directly to consumers. Since then, it has signed up six U.S. dealers and said that it has had “250 expressions of interest” from sellers in North America and Europe.

During the call, CEO Henrik Fisker said that the company is talking with a big automaker who asked to remain anonymous about making a strategic alliance with the business. The company has said it will put all plans for future models on hold until a partnership can be made. This includes the Pear SUV, the Alaska pickup truck, and the Ronin roadster. “We are not planning to start external expenditure on our next projects until we have a strategic OEM partnership in place,” said the executive.

The Ocean SUV will be the company’s first car since the Karma in 2013. In the second part of the year 2023, it is scheduled to be released. Fisker says it sold 4,929 Ocean crossovers in 2023, with 3,818 going out in the fourth quarter. The company that makes Oceans says they will have made 10,193 of them by 2023, so they must be very popular. Even though the company gave a gloomy outlook on the earnings call, it said it expects to sell between 20,000 and 22,000 Oceans around the world, based on how many dealer partners it plans to add.
