The 2024 Chevy Traverse has a stronger appearance. The three-row midsize SUV’s facelift delivers a new generation that should help Chevy compete with several competitors that have boxier bodies and off-road-focused trim levels. We picked seven of the 2024 Traverse’s most exciting new features, which included a revamped powertrain and interior.

One Turbo Four for All Trims

We like power and naturally aspirated V-6s. That’s the Traverse’s new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Every 2024 model has GM’s anticipated 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque engine. Compared to the 3.6-liter V-6, such values improve by 5 and 51. The turbo four’s eight-speed automatic transmission replaces the V-6’s nine-speed.

Z71-Treated Traverse

The Z71 off-road option was formerly exclusively available on body-on-frame models like the Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban. The Traverse is the first unibody model to get the Z71 treatment, which adds an inch of ground clearance and a wider track. The upgrade also includes aluminium skid plates, red tow hooks, distinctive 18-inch wheels with Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires, and a reworked suspension for rougher terrain. Twin-clutch all-wheel-drive is standard on the Traverse Z71.

22-Inch Shoes Traverse

20-inch wheels—what’s flashier? 22-inch wheels. The sporty Traverse RS trim now has larger rollers. The 22s fill the SUV’s wheel wells and enhance its stance. Last-generation Traverses used 20-inch rims. Push, nothing.

Airier Interior

The new Traverse has similar interior proportions to its predecessor due to its 120.9-inch wheelbase. Chevy’s interior designers opened the space. They also reduced the SUV’s beltline and instrument panel. The Traverse’s panoramic sunroof enhances visibility and airiness.

Column-Mounted Shifter

Electronic shifters have caused automakers to get overly creative and insert unintuitive rotary knobs or push-button shifters in new cars, taking up important center console space. We appreciate Chevy giving the 2019 Traverse a column-mounted shifter. We hope the trend spreads, but we’re not optimistic.

Super Cruise

GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist feature first debuted in the 2018 Cadillac CT6. The new Traverse may be the first mainstream model to offer the tech. Super Cruise lets U.S. and Canadian drivers drive hands-free on nearly 400,000 miles of split highways. The Traverse’s system can change lanes independently and tow a trailer.

Safety Tech

The 2024 Traverse’s SuperCruise isn’t the only great driver help. Chevy added standard safety tech. Front pedestrian and biker detection prevents crosswalk ploughing. Self-parking, side bicycling alert, and intersection-specific automated emergency braking are all available. The last one costs extra.
