While other automakers have tried their hand at or fully committed to making electric cars, Ferrari has waited carefully. These days, even Rolls-Royce has one. The famous Italian car company has experimented with electric cars in the past (the LaFerrari, the SF90, and the 296 GTB are just a few examples). Still, it has never made a car without a piston engine. There is a first time for everything, and Reuters says that next year, Ferrari will break its EV record with a $535,000 car.

Reuters says that over the next three to four months, Ferrari will build a new building in Maranello to make the next electric car. Even though only 14,000 cars are expected to leave Maranello by 2023, this new plant will make it possible to make about 20,000 cars each year. Also, the company will need more space because adding new model lines will only make the two-year wait list for Ferrari cars longer. The brand’s rarity will not get worse as production goes up, though.

Ferrari's first electric car will cost $535,000 next year, according to reports

Reuters reports that Fabio Caldato, a portfolio manager at Ferrari shareholder AcomeA SGR, says there is a growing demand for Ferraris and that they can meet some of it without giving up their luxury.

This source says that Ferrari has started building a second electric car, which is interesting. We can’t say what Ferrari’s second electric car will look like because we have yet to determine what the first one will look like. The Prancing Horse just released the Purosangue, which is their first SUV ever, but an EV is a better way to get to two.

But Maranello, a well-known brand, would be in a unique situation if it were the only one of its main competitors to make an all-electric supercar. McLaren only has one hybrid, Lamborghini is making one, and Bugatti will soon have one on the market. There are yet to be any electric speed coupes. With an MSRP of $535,00, this electric Ferrari will be the second most expensive car in Ferrari’s range, after the SF90.

“The new EV will be a niche model, accounting for just over 10% of annual sales,” says Mediobanca analyst Andrea Balloni. This means that the car will probably sell very few. Ferrari limits production to keep cars exclusive. As a result, less than 20,000 cars are expected to be made each year, even with two new electric vehicles and a new plant.
