We liked the BMW X2 (mostly) in its previous form, which was a fast SUV that looked like a coupe. It has been improved. It was a quick hot hatch wrapped in a sleek SUV, with all the pros and cons that come with that. It didn’t have the “coupe-UV” shape of its bigger sibling, the X6, which also helped start a controversial SUV sub-segment. All of that changes with the 2024 BMW X2, which you can see in the M35i guise. The 2024 BMW X2 is a profile of a picture The older X2 looked like a regular hatchback from the belt lineup, although it looked sportier than its X1 platform brother. The situation is very different in the ’24 X2, which also looks very different from the ’24 X1’s mini-X5 look. The X2 has a broad and bold C-pillar, a sharply angled tailgate, and character lines that make it look more like a three-box shape than “chopped” but classic. Pick a fastback over a hatchback. Also worth mentioning is the beautiful design on the back haunches. We probably shouldn’t call the form a “hot hatch” anymore, which is perhaps for the best. We don’t think many X2 fans could explain what the term means. We already talked about how it will contrast and compare to the X1 (same size) and the X4/X6 (same form). A Story of Two Front Ends for the 2024 BMW X2 The old X2’s front end was Pikachu-cute, but in 2024, Pikachu is mad. It looks more modern because its headlights are sharper and more angular, and the front of the car is full of hard lines and angles. The kidney grille has been interpreted very traditionally, and now a sensor housing has been put in an odd place next to it. On the other hand, a lit screen is another option if you really need to get that person’s attention. The solid back bumper has four tailpipes and eight taillights on a robust horizontal groove that falls inward. We are interested to see how the M35i’s less aggressive rivals handle the muscle that can be seen in the bare metal here. In 2024, would a bigger car be better? The X2’s measurements have improved, and it also looks better. A 7.6-inch stretch has made this small SUV 2.6 inches longer than the X1. The wheelbase goes up by slightly less than an inch to 106 inches. The extra length adds more cargo room, from 50.1 to 51.7 cu ft. It’s not much, but we’ll take it in the X2, which is a little small. The BMW X2 2024 has a M Sport Package for the XDrive28i If you don’t want an M35i but still want a faster car, the xDrive28i can be equipped with the M Sport package. Other features that come as standard are sport seats, anthracite upholstery, a M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, 19-inch M alloy wheels (you can upgrade to 20- or 21-inch rollers), large side intakes in the front bumper, side skirts, Shadowline exterior trim, a rear diffuser, and 19-inch M alloy wheels. The xDrive28i’s M Sport Professional package comes with black mirrors, M Sport brakes with red calipers, M Shadowline lights, a rear spoiler, and more Shadowline parts on the outside. If you go Pro with the M35i, you can get special M Sport seats, M Shadowline headlights, red or blue M Sport calipers (or optional gray M Compound brakes), and more Shadowline decor on the outside. New Drive for the 2024 BMW X2 XDrive28i The “new” 2.0-liter turbocharged “TwinPower” I-4 in the xDrive28i uses the Miller cycle for better gas mileage. The previous X2 sDrive28i and xDrive28i had 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This one has 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. BMW says it will go from 0 to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than the last. A 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission works with the engine. Changes to the 2024 BMW X2 M35i Engine There are also changes to the 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engine in the more powerful M35i. The pistons are now better oiled, the bearing shells and caps are more robust, and the crankshaft is longer. It is said that the M35i can go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and has 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, more than the 302 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque it had before. The Steptronic 7-speed DCT is also used in the M35i. Better Handling for the BMW X2 2024 BMW should only be praised for making steady work on the chassis. BMW says that the front suspension has been completely redone, even though the car looks a lot like the X2. One benefit that was stated is less torque steer. Having more caster also makes the vehicle more stable when going straight. Better front suspension springs, which BMW thinks will make it easier to keep control of the car over small bumps in the road. The xDrive28i and the M35i come with adaptive M dampers, a faster steering ratio, and a steering aid that changes based on speed. What’s Different About the 2024 BMW X2? A panel that looks a lot more modern is inside the new X2. The infotainment system and the BMW Curved Display gauge panel are now run by the Android-based Operating System 9. This was expected for the segment (and what the X1 hinted at). Because of this, everything is new and digital. With iDrive 9 running on the 10.25-inch infotainment screen, you can get BMW Digital Premium features for games, music, and streaming in the car. Of course, anyone can use BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assist service. It now recognizes actual speech better and acts based on the user’s actions. You can use your phone as a key with the BMW Digital Key Plus app for iOS or Android devices, which comes with the Comfort Access option. You can now get the optional Driving Assistant Professional driving aid system. It combines cameras and radar with the X2’s cruise control system. Enhanced Parking Assistant Plus gives extra help when getting into and out of parallel or perpendicular parking spots. You can use Drive Recorder as a dash cam with that setup. It can record up to 60 seconds of video during an accident. When and how much will the 2024 BMW X2 cost? The 2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i will start at $42,995, and the M35i will begin at $52,385.
