BMW sells more SUVs than cars and coupes right now. Since its release more than twenty years ago, the X3 has become BMW’s best-selling car around the world, beating out the 3-series. BMW will release a new version of the X3 in 2025. It will have two new engines, a better infotainment system, and a sleeker appearance.

For 2025, the BMW X3 will have a more unique look and stronger engines

New and modern things

The X3 has a unique look, with sharp edges and finely detailed work. It’s really a big change from the last model, even though BMW calls it the fourth generation. That is 1.0 inches less tall, 1.3 inches longer, and 1.1 inches wider than the 2025 model. This makes the look more aggressive, like the plug-in hybrid XM SUV’s 738 horsepower, which is emphasized by big wheel arches and a long roof spoiler. The X3 will come in two styles: the M50 and the xDrive30. (BMW is getting rid of the word “i,” which stood for fuel injection, from its gas-powered cars. Instead, “i” will be used for BMW electric cars.)

The normal X3 has a new take on BMW’s classic kidney grille, which is made up of a confusing mix of vertical and diagonal bars. The M50, on the other hand, has a more standard blacked-out look. The M50 has lighting around the edge of the grille as normal, but the xDrive30 lets you choose to have this feature. No matter the type, the headlights are made up of blue or black L-shaped pieces that meet. The M50 model has more power, ger ducts, and a more interesting front bumper. Wheels that are 20 or 21 inches are also offered for the xDrive30, but 19-inch wheels are standard. There are two exhaust tips on either side of the M50’s rear lip, but the xDrive30’s are hidden.

A modern log cabin

The inside of the house has a striking design that is brought out by unique lighting. The lighting can be different colors and U-shaped elements on the center desk and door panels. It can also surround air vents, door handles, and some buttons on the doors.

The touchscreen and digital gauge set are housed in a huge, curved screen that matches the futuristic lighting. Even though BMW doesn’t say what size the screens are, they look like the right size. The X3 has the most up-to-date form of the BMW iDrive 9, so there are fewer physical controls inside the car. The new navigation system lets you see things in 3-D and from space, and it also lets you watch music and videos and play games in the car. BMW says that the voice assistant has been improved so that it can talk and listen to orders more effectively. However, the head-up display is still not required.

The new gear selector switch is in the center panel, and the bottom of the steering wheel is flat. The seats come with automatic adjustments and heating as standard. The seats in the base model are covered in BMW’s Veganza fake leather, but you can choose Merino leather chairs and Alcantara details instead. Woven fabric can now be used for the first time to cover the dashboard.

Engines that are strong and work well

The xDrive30 model has a 48-volt hybrid motor and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine at its heart. The engine now has 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which is seven more horsepower and 37 pound-feet of torque. The BMW xDrive30 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph. BMW says the Miller combustion cycle, new ignition system, intake ports and combustion chambers, and other changes have made the engine more efficient.

The M50, on the other hand, has a 48-volt hybrid system and a 3.0-liter inline-six supercharged engine. 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque are made, which is 11 horsepower and 59 pound-feet more than the old M40i type. BMW says it takes 4.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, and with an extra package, the top speed can be raised from 130 mph to 155 mph.

The eight-speed automatic gearbox in both powertrains has an electric motor that can either make the engine work harder or less hard. The six-cylinder engine gets the same changes that make the four-cylinder engine more fuel-efficient. It also gets a new high-performance turbocharger and a piston oil feed system. The engine base on the M50 is said to be “extremely rigid” by BMW.

As part of its adaptive suspension system, the M50 has an M Sport rear differential, variable sport steering, and dampers that are controlled electrically. The M Sport brakes help you stop. The back brakes have floating single-piston calipers, and the front brakes have fixed four-piston units. Most of these things are also available on the xDrive30. When a trailer hitch is added, the X3 can pull up to 4850 pounds.

Packed Full of Technology

It has a lot of features to help you drive and park, like blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist, and a new optional Parking Assistant Professional package that uses the curb, other cars, and road markers to figure out where the limits of a parking place are. With the My BMW app, you can also handle the SUV from outside the car. For example, you can use it to drive the X3 into and out of tight spaces. Up to ten moves, totaling 650 yards can be saved by the Maneuver Assistant tool. There is also a gadget called the Traffic Jam Assistant that can work hands-free on highways with limited access at up to 40 mph.

The BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will continue to make the X3. Sales in the United States will start in the current quarter. The base price for the X3 xDrive30 is $50,675, while the list price for the X3 M50 is $65,275. Even though the 2024 model had a rear-wheel-drive choice that cost $2780 less, it was only $780 more expensive than the xDrive30i that came before it. The 2024 X3 M40i is $2380 less expensive than the new M50.
