GM has been teasing the possibility of supercars and hypercars for some time, with only the mid-engine Corvette and a handful of prototypes unveiled at auto shows materializing. However, a seismic shift is occurring in Detroit, and Cadillac’s potential foray into Formula One is a development that is sure to captivate the attention of motorsport enthusiasts.

Could Cadillac be on the brink of producing a Hypercar? The answer is a resounding ‘yes ‘. But the question remains, ‘Should they?’ Again, the answer is a definitive ‘Yes ‘. The real mystery lies in whether they are indeed in the process of creating one. AGM’s global design head, Michael Simcoe, tantalizingly told CarSales in Australia, ‘That would be giving away too much.’

For the Formula One race, the Cadillac hypercar is being thought about

According to CarSales, Simcoe revealed that Cadillac’s potential foray into Formula One (F1) had ignited his interest in hypercars. This revelation is hardly surprising, given that many hypercars are born from F1 brands harnessing the sport’s marketing power and technical expertise. The performance of street-driven Ferraris and McLarens has long benefited from F1 technology, and more recently, from Mercedes-AMG One technology. The involvement of renowned Formula One designer and engineer Adrian Newey with Red Bull in the creation of a hypercar further underscores this connection.

Simcoe didn’t say that a Cadillac hypercar wouldn’t happen, and he kept giving out details. “No, it [hypercar] wouldn’t have to be [electric], but it could be,” Simcoe replied when asked about the hypercar’s energy.

Since Formula One cars are hybrids, it makes sense for Cadillac to make a hybrid hypercar like the AMG One. There are different V8 engines to choose from, and the Corvette’s mid-engine frame is the best. It already has what it takes to become one. Besides a possible Formula One entry, a modified version of the flat-plane crank V8 Corvette Z06 (er, ZR1) would be unique enough to get people all over the world interested. The XLR, on the other hand, was Cadillac’s attempt to make a sports car based on a Corvette.

Even though GM has had many great ideas over the years, this is the closest we’ve ever come to making it happen. GM is not only better prepared than ever with its new powertrain and EV technology, but it also has the best reason to make one since it plays in Le Mans and wants to join Formula One in the future.
