• The GT3 version is built on the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. It is a factory-backed race car.
  • The Mustang GT3 has a race-tuned 5.4-liter V-8 engine, a unique suspension, body parts made of carbon fibre, and extreme aerodynamic features like a big rear wing.
  • The GT3-spec Stang will make its foreign debut next year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 2024 World Endurance Championship.

When the new V-8-powered Dark Horse model is improved from a fast street car to a full-fledged racer, it becomes the Ford Mustang GT3. Ford said today that the Mustang would officially appear in the international FIA GT3 category on the eve of this year’s historic 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Getting ready to compete

Around this time next year, the factory-backed Mustang GT3 will be racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But it can do this once it starts running in other series in 2024. The World Endurance Championship and the IMSA GTD Pro Class are two. Proton Competition from Germany will be Ford’s first customer team. They will enter two cars in the earlier races. Multimatic Motorsports will run the latter with two stock Ford Performance team drivers. It will start at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2024.

With the help of a few skilled business partners, Ford Performance made the GT3 Mustang. M-Sport will make the engines. They will be race-tuned 5.4-liter V-8s based on the new 5.0-liter Coyote engine that gives the Mustang the Dark Horse 500 horsepower. The GT3 model also has a transaxle in the back and a unique suspension system with double wishbones of different lengths.

Demon Horse

The GT3-spec Stang has a beautiful paint job by Troy Lee, who is thought to be one of the best racing designers and a new Ford Performance emblem. The streamlined look will be used in FP’s race cars, ads, and other things.

Behind that shiny finish are several pieces of the carbon-fibre body. Even though the GT3 model’s style has changed a lot, it can’t be confused with anything else. As all four bumpers are pushed out, it gets a lot wider. Many holes have been cut out to help with cooling and airflow.

It looks scary because the carbon fibre around the lower front air intake is visible. Above is a set of fog lights that help light up the track at night or when there isn’t much light. Instead of a decklid, a big swan-neck wing sticks out from the top towards the back. The piece that sticks out of the back diffuser looks like it could cut off one or more limbs.

The street-legal version of the Mustang GT3’s interior is the same except for the door handles. Aside from that, the car has been taken apart piece by piece to make it as light as possible. A roll cage has been added to make the vehicle safer and stiffer, and a Recaro racing seat sits in front of a steering wheel that looks like it has more buttons and switches than Volkswagen’s full line of electric cars.
