The CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, said on Twitter that all Ford and Lincoln cars will come with an AM radio by 2024. Farley said Ford had planned to eliminate AM radio in new cars because of how vital AM’s emergency call system is. AM radio, removed from the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, will be put back in through an over-the-air software update. Even though AM radio was said to be dead, it will still be in all Ford and Lincoln cars in 2024. Jim Farley, the CEO of Formica, said today that the company has decided to keep AM radio in its future vehicles. Farley told everyone about this today on Twitter. Other car makers, like Tesla, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and others that make electric cars, have already started to get rid of AM radio. But politicians and many others are upset because they think AM radio is essential. After all, it is widely available, accessible, and needed for public safety. Reuters says a group of politicians from both parties proposed a bill requiring automakers to put AM radios in all new cars. After the new F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E models did well, Ford took AM radio out of all the 2024 models. Farley tweeted that the company is changing its plans “after talking with policy leaders about how important AM broadcast radio is as part of the emergency alert system.” This information was brought in from Twitter. You can find the same information on their website, but in a different way or with more details. Farley also said that AM radio’s Lightning and Mach-E forms would be returned through a software update sent over the air. It could be more explicit if other car companies that have stopped making AM radios will follow suit. From what I hear, Congress may decide that.
