• A Ford Maverick with special 19-inch wheels has been found, which suggests that the car will come in a sport-tuned version.
  • We thought the small truck would have the ST badge, but Ford just filed the name “Maverick Lobo” as a trademark with the USPTO.
  • In its third-quarter 2023 results, Ford also showed off more Maverick brand extensions.

Soon, there will be a Ford Maverick version. That comes straight from the source. Ford is the horse in question. Last month, the company said in its quarterly earnings report that it is working on new versions of its very popular small pickup truck. Now, one of those next versions will likely be a sporty Maverick, most likely called the Lobo.

Ford's mistreated Maverick Lobo is trying to bring back the long-lost sports truck

How Maverick Lobo looks?

Right now, this is just a guess, but Ford has confirmed it after filing something recently with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). The Blue Oval brand registered the name “Maverick Lobo” as a trademark on August 14, 2023.

Add to that the fact that spy photos from recently show a prototype Maverick that is partly hidden. This test mule’s 19-inch wheels and 225/65R19 Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT all-season tires stand out the most. The rims on the Mustang Dark Horse are bigger than those on the standard production Maverick, but the tires could be better than those on the race-level Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS.

The front and back ends are completely hidden, and the front end may conceal a more threatening face. If the grille is bigger or the air vents are lower, the engine underneath is stronger. It has a current 250-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, which is all right. We sped up an all-wheel-drive car from 0 to 95 mph in 14.5 seconds and from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. To give you an idea of how fast it is, the truck can hit 60 mph faster than many Mustangs that have ever been made.

We wrote a few months ago about Ford’s supposedly planned plans to make a street-performance F-150, so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the company wants to bring the Lobo name to the US market. That could only mean SUVs like the mid-size Explorer, but we need to know what it means for the brand’s fast-paced ST name. We’re excited about the possibility of a Ford sports truck coming back, no matter what the name is.
