The update to the NACS charging outlet on Tesla’s Supercharger network is still being worked on. BMW said today that it plans to use the American electric vehicle maker’s link to get to its huge charging network in early 2025. Who has yet to go to NACS is the most critical question, not who has. Every giant automaker did the same thing after Ford.

BMW’s Mini and Rolls-Royce cars will also be able to use NACS plugs. The company that made the EVs said that all owners of those cars with the CCS plug could use the Supercharger network. The company did not say in a news release that it would give adapters to these owners, but that is the only way it can happen. It is still too early to say if they will be given one or just told to buy a CCS-to-NACS converter.

Both Tesla and BMW are working together to connect each brand’s charging apps to Tesla’s network. Soon, Tesla Supercharger stations will show up on BMW’s charging station maps. BMW says owners can pay for charging this way without getting new software.

This claim must be more solid regarding BMW’s massive new charging station project with several other companies. One thing that should be known is that Stellantis is the only alliance member who has yet to join NACS officially. The company from Bavaria says the news has nothing to do with the push to build charging stations, but it’s clear that the plug that ends up on those stations is essential. On that front, the dust has yet to settle all the way.

Many automakers have said they want to switch to NACS, but it needs to be clarified how many chargers will be built with the plug and how many, if any, will be modified. Electrify America has said that the NAC will be made.
