• The Volvo XC40 and XC60 will no longer have front-wheel drive for the 2024 model year.
  • The fast S60 Recharge Polestar Engineered is also different from the current lineup.
  • Volvo has already said that the 2024 C40 and XC40 Recharge will get changes, such as RWD models and better electric motors and range.

Only a few of Volvo’s SUVs will have all-wheel drive in 2024. The all-electric C40/XC40 Recharge and the S60 sedan are two more cars that have changed a lot for the 2019 model year.

Front drive, see you later.

Front-wheel drive will no longer be an option for the gas-powered XC40 and XC60. The first one will replace the standard B4 engine, which was a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharger that sent 194 horsepower to the front axle. Only the B5, which has all-wheel drive and a turbo four-cylinder engine with 247 hp, is left. The B5 engine with front-wheel drive is no longer offered for the XC60. The 295-hp all-wheel-drive B6 is also no longer available, so the only XC60 types left are the all-wheel-drive B5 and the plug-in hybrid T8.

The S60 doesn’t have Polestar.

Fans of the high-performance Volvo S60 Recharge Polestar Engineered will be sad to hear that it will no longer be available after 2024. The sedan’s 455-hp T8 plug-in hybrid engine, gold-painted six-piston Brembo front brake callipers, forged 19-inch wheels, and changeable Ohlins dampers were also displayed. At the very least, Volvo will keep selling Polestar versions of the XC60 and the V60 wagon.

SUV Recharge’s brothers and sisters

Last month, Volvo also showed new versions of the coupe-like C40 Recharge and the SUV-like XC40 Recharge. With a new 248-hp electric motor and 79.0 kWh battery pack, the C40 and XC40 now have rear-drive models with a range of 297 and 293 miles, respectively.

The new electric motor in the back is also used in the all-wheel-drive versions of the Recharge cousins, which still have an asynchronous motor in the front and make 402 horsepower. Their range is said to increase by 31 miles, and they can charge faster with a 200-kilowatt peak charging rate.

Keep an eye out in the coming months for news about the prices of Volvo cars in 2024. The small 2025 EX30 EV SUV from the Swedish car company starts at $36,145.
