• Porsche has said that the third-generation Cayenne will still be made until the 2030s, along with the fourth-generation electric car that is coming out soon.
  • Even though there will be a lot of changes in 2024, the gas Cayenne will still be improved.
  • Porsche will work on making the V-8 Cayenne engine more fuel-efficient.

Soon, Porsche’s lineup will include a lot more electric cars. The new electric Macan crossover will join the Taycan, which came out in 2020, later this year. Porsche said last year that the Cayenne SUV would also switch to electric power. The company is also working on an electric version of the 718 Cayman and Boxster sports cars. But Porsche has made it clear that it won’t put all of its eggs in one basket. The Cayenne will be offered with both hybrid and internal combustion engines after 2030.

Gas-powered Porsche Cayennes will debut in the 2030s, but the V-8 will remain

Porsche is not going to rest on its laurels. Porsche says that the gas-guzzling Cayenne will continue to get big changes. The third generation of the car will still be sold, along with the fourth generation electric version. Porsche said that the main goal for making sure that the twin-turbocharged motor meets future needs will be to make the V-8 engine more efficient.

In 2024, the Cayenne got a major makeover that included a new dashboard, more horsepower across the board, and a sharper look on the outside. The S trim level used to have a twin-turbo V-6 engine, but now it has a twin-turbo V-8 engine. This shows that Porsche is committed to the eight-cylinder drivetrain.

However, Porsche wants more than 80% of the cars it ships to be electric by 2030. There is a catch, though: “depending on the demand of our customers and the development of electromobility in the regions of the world.” The Cayenne EV will use the same 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) technology that powers the electric Macan and many other planned Audi cars by the middle of the decade.

Porsche has started testing the new Cayenne, and disguised prototypes of electric cars have already been seen around. Before the Cayenne EV goes on sale, Porsche thinks it will have driven several million test kilometers around the world.
