General Motors (GM) stopped selling new cars at stores and called back 323,232 heavy-duty trucks. Some Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 cars from 2020 to 2024 are being recalled. Trucks with manual tailgates and the power lock/release system are having trouble, which is why the recall is being pushed. Because of this bug, the gate might open by mistake when the car is parked. General Motors has recalled a lot of its heavy-duty trucks—323,232 to be exact—even though the problem isn’t very big or dangerous. Heavy-duty cars made by GM are included in the recall. These include the 2020–2024 Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 models. Along with the recall, GM has told dealers not to sell any trucks that are already on their lots until they can be fixed. There is a problem with the power lock and release system on trucks that have manual tailgates, which led to the recall. Trucks with different tailgates are specifically not included in the recall. A recall warning from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that if the electronic gate-release switch inside the tailgate gets wet, it might not work right. After that, the switch could short circuit, opening the tailgate while the car is still stopped and letting the bed’s contents fall out, putting other drivers in danger. Until the recall is taken care of, truck owners should make sure that their tailgates are properly attached before using them. The problem will be fixed by having the dealers change the exterior touchpad switch assemblies to “use a new material that improves resistance to water intrusion.” Production changed on August 1, 2023. Letters to owners should start coming on March 18, 2024. Dealers were told about the recall on February 1, 2024.
