It is no longer possible to get the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro in its original form. The gasoline-powered pony car stopped being made in December 2023, and Chevrolet only said a little about what would happen with the nameplate after that. However, Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, has talked about his ideas for an electric Camaro that sounds nothing like Ford’s Mustang Mach-E.

The data was gathered by talking to people who work at Motor Trend. The source says that Reuss is committed to bringing the Camaro name back to the American market, but not at the cost of its essence. He envisions a vehicle that respects the story that has been built up over the last sixty years, with the pony-car badge placed next to it. When it comes to a real pony car, he values cost and participation more than output and track skill. It needs to look like a coupe and be appealing to buyers outside of car fans. The upcoming electric Charger has a Dodge “four-door coupe” design. It remains to be seen if Chevrolet likes it.

GM President says that the Chevy Camaro might be replaced by an electric car that is fun to drive

Reuss has reiterated that the price of a Camaro EV might be about the same as the Equinox EV, which starts at $34,995 for the 1LT model. With the $7,500 federal EV tax credit applied, that model’s price would be almost $5,000 less than the old Camaro’s. This commitment to affordability is a clear indication of Reuss’s dedication to making the electric Camaro accessible to a wide range of buyers. Everything is, of course, open to change right now. Reuss did say that the company needs to increase production to make room for the Ultium engine, which means that an electric Camaro is still a while off. The Equinox EV, the GMC Hummer EV, and everything else now use the same design for their electric drivetrains.

Fans are more likely to be happy with Reuss’s plans, and we hope that the Chevrolet Camaro will come back to the market in some way. Still, we won’t know what GM is doing behind closed doors for a while. When it comes to the Mustang Mach-E, Ford may be a bigger oddity than we thought.
