• The BMW XM Label Red will come out in 2024 with a 738-hp plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It will be the brand’s most potent M-badged car.
  • The Label Red is said to go 3.7 seconds from 0-60 mph and has a range of about 30 miles on electric power.
  • BMW hasn’t said how much it will cost, but once production starts in August, it will be around $186,000.

The 2024 BMW XM Label Red is different from all other M cars. The main reason is that it has more power than any other BMW with an M badge that was ever allowed on public roads. It is also a large plug-in hybrid SUV.

Big, bad BMW

The electric powertrain in the Label Red has been upgraded to make 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, the same as the 644-hp XM model. The high numbers come from the 4.4-liter V-8 engine with twin turbochargers, the electric motor in the middle of the machine, and the eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW says that the XM Label Red can go 3.7 seconds from 0-60 mph thanks to its drivetrain and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system that can be adjusted. That is four-tenths faster than what the estimate said. The Label Red can only go as fast as 155 mph, but with the optional M Driver’s package, it can go up to 175 mph.

Every model comes standard with adaptive dampers, active anti-roll bars, an electrically controlled limited-slip rear differential, M compound brakes with fixed six-piston front calipers and floating single-piston rear clampers, and an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. You can use a set of 22-inch wheels instead of the standard set of 23-inch wheels for no extra cost. Like the normal XM, the Label Red comes only with summer tires.

Extroverted and energized

BMW has yet to talk about fuel economy, but it has spoken of Label Red’s electrical system, which is the same as the XM’s, which could be better. Under the floor is a 19.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can power the car for about 30 miles. While utilizing the 7.4-kW onboard charger, it should take three hours and fifteen minutes to recharge a battery fully.

The XM Label Red is simple to recognize, regardless of whether it is plugged in at home or at a public Level 2 charger. It could be the car’s massive, alien-looking front end with the red rings around its funny kidney grille that strikes you as so flashy. The big wheels have red decorations on the outside. The stripe that runs along its sides and up the sides of its side windows is also available in Toronto Red. Are we the only ones who think the A-Team van looks suspicious?

Inside, red parts from the Bimmer are still there but are in a more normal place. The color can be seen on the stitched surfaces inside the car and the dashboard air vents. The BMW’s curved glass panel, which has a 14.9-inch touchscreen, the iDrive 8.5 infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, is one of the most eye-catching parts.

The cabin also has a head-up display, a three-dimensional ceiling, and many controls unique to the M. If the standard Harman Kardon stereo isn’t enough, consumers can upgrade to a 1475-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system. A car this nice wouldn’t be complete without some driving aids, like BMW’s semi-autonomous drive mode, which lets you drive hands-free on some roads at up to 85 mph.

In August, the 2024 BMW XM Label Red will be made at the company’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. BMW says prices will be announced closer to the launch date, but the most powerful XM will start at about $186,000.
