According to Ford Authority, the Lobo, a street-performance car, would be added to the Ford F-150 lineup. The F-150 Lobo will reportedly have a lower ride height and an unconventional look, but no specific powertrain information has been published. If the rumors are true, the 2024 F-150 facelift will debut at the Detroit auto show, and the Lobo might herald the resurrection of the SVT Lightning. The electric Ford F-150 Lightning was a squandered opportunity for the Blue Oval to build a high-performance sport truck similar to the traditional F-150 SVT Lightning, which debuted a few years ago. Ford looks to be making amends for the claimed oversight by offering a street-performance edition of the planned 2024 F-150 update. That, of course, assumes the Ford Authority report from last Saturday is correct. The F-150 Lobo is now available For those unaware, Mexico has referred to the Ford F-150, a half-ton pickup truck, as “Lobo” since the 1990s. Ford can only slap the Lightning badge on a high-performance version of its gas and hybrid trucks if it creates a marketing disaster and confuses everyone. The term Lightning is already connected with the Ford F-150 EV. Instead, the company is claimed to be introducing the Lobo brand to the American market. In a recent Ford Performance release, the F-150’s optional 5.0-liter V-8 engine and a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger are coupled to produce 700 horsepower. Although we don’t expect the F-150 Lobo to have that much power (though it would be fantastic if it could), insiders at Ford Authority say the sport truck will feature a lower ride height and a different design. Even though powertrain specs were not included in the narrative, the Lobo variant will be equivalent to the off-road-focused Tremor treatment. This standalone model is available on most Ford pickup trucks, from the little Maverick to the full-size F-150 to the HD Super Duty. We should find out soon whether Ford is bringing back a high-po pickup truck like the original SVT Lightning or if we were just excessively excited for nothing, as the new F-150 will debut at the Detroit auto show in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
