• Stellantis has shown off its brand-new STLA Large base, which will likely power the 2025 Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S EV.
  • Its flexible design can work with cars that have internal combustion engines, hybrids, and all-wheel drive, as well as cars with AWD, FWD, and RWD.
  • EV versions of the STLA Large should be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about two and a half seconds and have a range of about 500 miles.

Stellantis, the company that owns well-known names like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, talked about its new STLA Large platform today. The company said that future Dodge and Jeep cars, which will hit the market later this year, will have flexible design.

In 2025, the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger will both be built on the same huge STLA base

The official news yesterday that the electric 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S will be coming to the US in the fall is linked to this. The 2025 Charger was revealed by Dodge on social media last week when they said it would be “available late 2024.” There were different kinds of cars in the teasing pictures.

The timing of those announcements was probably not a coincidence. That’s why today’s STLA-L platform news has more information about the new Charger and Wagoneer S, as well as six other cars that will go on sale around the world in the next few years that have yet to be named. The first ones will be brand-new cars from Chrysler, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo.

Large Amount of Data (STLA)

Stellantis says that STLA Large is mainly an EV platform with a 400- or 800-volt design, but it can also work with gas-powered or hybrid engines. Online reports said that the new Dodge Charger would come with both a gas engine and an electric engine. This proves those claims. Most likely, this gasoline engine is a version of the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six, which can now make more than 500 horsepower.

STLA-L works with both transverse and longitudinal engine layouts, as well as limited-slip differentials. Stellantis says the platform can handle “extreme power that will outperform any of the existing Hellcat V-8s.” The most powerful Hellcat engine in the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 can make up to 1025 horsepower. We think this engine will be the biggest problem for the new Charger EV’s performance.

Because it is flexible, the STLA Large base can work with three different types of powertrains: all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and rear-wheel drive. It’s now 12 inches longer than it was before, up from 113 inches. Overall lengths range from 187.6 inches to 201.8 inches, according to Stellantis. Overall widths range from 74.7 inches to 79.9 inches. The platform is 5.5 inches off the ground at its lowest point and 11.3 inches off the ground at its highest point. Stellantis says that off-road cars like the Jeep can only have tires with a diameter of 32.6 inches at most.

More information on STLA-L EV

More information about the planned electric cars that will use the STLA Large platform is included in today’s release. They say their battery capacities are between 85.0 and 118.0 kWh, but it needs to be clarified if this is gross or net capacity (we think net). Stellantis thinks that its electric cars will have a 500-mile range thanks to the 800-volt architecture. Even though it’s based on the more positive European WLTP test cycle, which says an EPA equivalent of about 425 miles, it’s still a good guess.

Stellantis thinks that silicon carbide will be used as a semiconductor material in electric drive modules like motors, power transformers, and gear reduction modules. This is done to cut down on costs compared to using regular silicon material. The PPE base that will support the Macan EV is being built by Porsche in the same way. Stellantis also said that over-the-air updates will make it possible for the powertrains to work better over the life of the vehicles. STLA-L will work with the company’s next-generation technologies, such as AutoDrive, SmartCockpit, and STLA Brain.

Stellantis also has the STLA Small, Medium, and Frame names. This is what will power the electric Ram 1500 REV and Ram 1500 Ramcharger plug-in hybrid pickup trucks. The first Chrysler electric vehicle, which might be based on the AirFlow idea, will use the STLA-M platform.
