• Ram’s first battery-electric car, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup, now has more specs and information.
  • The electric Ram makes some big claims, such as travelling up to 500 miles and towing 14,000 pounds.
  • Ram hinted at the 1500 REV XR, a more ambitious future model with a “class-breaking” range and probably a gasoline range-extender engine. No exact date is given, only that it will happen after the model year 2025.

Even though Ram wouldn’t be the first company to make an electric pickup, CEO Mike Kaval promised backers two years ago that it would take more time to compare its truck to those already on the market and make a more capable vehicle. Stellate’s kept its promise and showed in a daring and sly Super Bowl ad that its first electric truck would be called the 2025 1500 REV.

Range of at least 500 miles?

Ram later showed the numbers, which showed that the extra baking time worked. Customers will have two battery options when the 1500 REV goes on sale for the first time in 2025. A typical battery pack with 168.0 kWh is made to last for 350 miles on a single charge. The long-range model can go 500 miles and has a massive battery of 229.0 kWh.

For comparison, the Extended Range F-150 Lightning has a range of 320 miles and a 131.0-kWh battery (we managed 230 in our 75-mph highway test). Even though the Hummer EV’s 212.7-kWh battery is larger and GMC promises a 329-mile range (we only obtained 290 miles in our range test), quick charging is a must. charging a battery that size can quickly cost more than $100 for a full charge.

No matter what battery is used, the 1500 REV can add up to 110 miles to its range in less than 10 minutes. This means it will be able to charge at above 300 kW for the whole time. It uses a different connection between two 400-volt battery parts to allow its 800-volt DC to fast-charge at up to 350 kW. This is the same as GM’s Hummer, which switches from parallel to series charging for 800-volt charging.

The power in the 1500 REV batteries is sent to the front and back axles by two electric drive modules with 335 horsepower. This gives the car an all-wheel drive. The rear axle can have an electronic locking rear differential, but the front axle cannot. Instead, an automatic wheel-end disconnect is put on the front axle. This lets the front wheels spin freely and improves fuel economy.

Ram says the car will have 620 pound-feet of torque and 654 horsepower. The 1500 REV can reach 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds, which is good but could be faster.

The 1500 REV will be able to charge in both directions between vehicles, the grid, and homes. With up to 7.2 kW in the bed and 3.6 kW in the trunk, the truck’s front and rear onboard power systems can power accessories like tailgates and work sites.

Ram recognizes truck owners want to use their trucks. This means getting rid of or at least lowering the downsides of switching to an EV. The regular range truck will be able to carry 14,000 pounds, and it will be able to have a maximum of 2,700 pounds. There are no official tow ratings for the long-range version.

The average internal combustion engine Ram 1500 has become an enormous mainstay on our 10Best list thanks to its coil-spring rear axle, which makes it ride very well. The 1500 REV goes one step further with a multi-link independent configuration in the back and standard active-leveling air suspension with variable damping on all four corners. The air suspension can be set to one of five different ride heights.

Excellent Brass Trims

The 2019 Ram will come in five trim levels: Limited, Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, and a new top-of-the-line edge called Tungsten. The Indigo/Sea Salt two-tone interior is unique to the Tungsten trim. Inside, there are a lot of metal accents, and the headliner, A- and B-pillars, and visors are all made of suede.

Even though there are a lot of changes, people who are used to the standard gasoline-powered version will feel right at home in the 1500 REV. The classic vehicle now comes with a 14.5-inch screen instead of the 12-inch screen that was available as an option before. Also being made is the 10.3-inch passenger screen in the concept truck’s dash.

The new EV-specific infotainment system displays power flow, range, charge levels, and charging schedules. The 1500 REV also has a plug-and-charge feature that lets owners set up payment so that charging happens automatically when the car is plugged into a charging station that supports it.

Delivery of the 2025 1500 REV is expected in the first quarter of 2025, and production will start in the fourth quarter of 2024. The price has yet to be set, but since the REV’s battery packs are more prominent than its competitors, it’s likely to be much more expensive than a gas- or diesel-powered Ram 1500.
