In May 2022, a class-action lawsuit was made against General Motors in the United States because of problems with the well-known 8LXX eight-speed automatic transmission. After a year, there is a file in Canada. A recent post on GM Authority says that the GM 8L90 and 8L45E eight-speed automatic transmissions are broken, and how they change gears quickly could put the safety of nearby drivers, passengers, and bystanders at risk. All Canadians (including individuals, businesses, and estates) who bought or leased new or used GM-made, GM-marketed, GM-distributed, GM-sold, GM-warranted, or GM-serviced vehicles with GM‘s (collectively, “Transmissions”) before the date this action was made a class action. As this is not the first concern about these transmissions and probably won’t be the last, they have replaced some of the eight-speed ones with their newer 10-speed ones, which were made in collaboration with Ford. Currently, the Camaro, Colorado, and Silverado are all said to still have the wrong gear still. Some people say Ford’s new 10-speed gearbox makes jerks and spikes when changing speeds because it doesn’t shift smoothly. On April 18, 2023, a claim was made against Ford in Massachusetts about the 10R80 transmission. Jalopnik says that buyers did complain to Ford about the problems, but Ford turned down the repair and said, “Abrupt and harsh shifting is normal.”
