Fans were unhappy with the ending because Volkswagen moved away from the Mk7 Golf, which almost everyone loved. The Mk8 hatch had a new interior and a style that caused a lot of controversy. Both of these changes were steps backward. VW has heard your concerns and is working on some improvements for the better 2024 Golf. We might even get a sneak peek at these improvements before the end of next month.

In January, you'll be able to buy the improved Mk8 Golf with Real Buttons

Most of the complaints about the Mk8 Golf came from people who worked on it. The Mk7 Golf, which came before it, had one of the nicest cabins for the money. Most cars in its price range were less well made or with better materials than this one. It was also pleasantly simple and easy to use when it came to the entertainment system and ergonomics. The Mk8 Golf’s interior, on the other hand, lacked that careful touch. Its very touch-sensitive steering wheel, fan, and volume controls, along with its lack of lighted dashboard buttons, made it very hard to use.

Volkswagen says the 2024 VW Golf is not a new model but rather an “evolutionary development of the eighth Golf generation.” It will come out in time for the model’s 50th anniversary. Some people have called it the “Mk8.5” Golf, and it will be able to fix most, if not all, of the problems with the outside look, the fit and finish inside, the ability to help the driver, and, most importantly, the “next-generation infotainment systems and software.”

Volkswagen officials have already said that they think tactile buttons should be added back to their cars, which this news supports. In June, CEO Thomas Schafer said that touchscreen dashboards “definitely did a lot of damage” to VW’s customer base. Volkswagen’s interior designer, Darius Watola, recently said that real buttons will be added back to all of the brand’s interiors, even those in electric vehicles.

We’ll know how much better this new Mk8 Golf is when it comes out officially in a few weeks. Pre-sales will start in the spring. The new Golf might not have an easy-to-reach touchscreen button when we finally get to sit in one.
