• The Ineos company showed off four prototypes of what look like future versions of the Grenadier SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
  • Two of the prototypes will race in the Dakar in 2025. One will have a GM V-8 engine, and the other will be used for racing.
  • The Arcane Works branch of Ineos also made changes to the first Grenadier special version, which the company released.

The old Ineos Grenadier SUV has been made at the company’s factory in Hambach, France, since 2022. Deliveries began in the US earlier this year. Since then, the British car company has made the Quartermaster, which is a pickup truck version. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ineos is showing off a number of prototypes that look like they could be used in future Grenadier models that may be added to the lineup.

Four positive types

Even though all of the prototypes have yet to be officially cleared for production, they all look like they could be used. First up is a tougher off-road Quartermaster that was raised by adding offset wheel hubs and portal axles. This was done by a German company called LeTech. The truck is now 10.4 inches higher, and there is 41.3 inches of water below it after it rose more than 10 inches. The LeTech-modified Quartermaster has bigger off-road tires and extra lights on the roof to make it look like it can handle any terrain.

This vehicle, which looks ridiculous, is based on the Grenadier SUV and not the Quartermaster. It is called the “Shortermaster.” Because it was made to be an SUV, it has a 12-inch shorter wheelbase than the production-spec Quartermaster. Ineos engineers created it at the Hambach factory. Ineos moved the back seats forward to make more room in the bed, but the spare tire in the back may make it less useful.

This prototype has a 6.2-liter V-8 engine from General Motors that makes 425 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, while the regular Grenadier has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine from BMW. For the new engine, the water and oil cooling systems had to be improved. The exhaust manifold had to be replaced, and the engine electronics and mounts had to be redone. Magna engineering trainees built it, and they also helped make the Grenadier. It was also done to the heat shields and gearbox gears. There is also a small hood scoop on the V-8 prototype, and the center panel needs to be changed.

Ineos also showed a fully FIA-compliant rally-ready Grenadier made by Buzz Special Vehicles. This car will be able to fight in the difficult Dakar Rally in the 2025 World Rally Championship. The BMW inline-six now has 349 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, which is 67 horsepower and 74 pound-feet more than the original engine. Plus, the wheels are custom-made, the brakes are stronger, and there is a speed exhaust. The cabin has been stripped down and now has a roll cage, race bucket seats, and carbon door panels inside. Roof vents make the bold look even stronger.

Changes to the Grenadiers

Along with the four prototypes, Ineos also showed off the first limited-edition Grenadier from its brand-new division, Arcane Works. There will only be 200 Grenadier Detours made, which gives owners of SUVs with more traditional looks more ways to change their vehicles. The 18-inch forged wheels and silver accents on the nose of the Detour give it a luxurious look. There are unique headlights surrounding the Detour and an exterior contrast kit with new color choices for the roof rails, rear-mounted ladder, and front and back skid plates that make it stand out from the others.

Magma Red, Whiteout Blue, Squall Green, and Storm Force Silver are the four new hand-polished paint choices for the Detour. Customers can also use a color-matching tool to pick a paint color that looks a lot like a sample they send in. The six-cylinder engine has a new exhaust system that is meant to make the sound more dramatic.

The air vents, doors, and transmission tube inside can now be had in two new satin finishes. There are two cashmere headliners and four quilted leather choices for the seats. A British artisan jeweler made the Arcane Works badge, and a laser-etched metal door sill lets you know that this is a limited edition item. Ineos says that the Arcane Works team wants to make even more unique versions in the future, with changes to the engines and updates to the chassis.
