Even though Acura isn’t making the NSX anymore, it has plans for its newest supercar. Acura will work on Pikes Peak by sending a brand-new NSX Type S prototype and a hot new Integra Type S up the mountain track.

Acura will send four race cars made right now to the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb for the 13th year. The best of the group is the Acura NSX Type S Active Aero Study. On the Pikes Peak track, it was made to be as aerodynamic as possible. The Crazy New section of the Honda of America Racing Team made it. This is the same group that made the crazy Honda CR-V with an IndyCar engine.

The prototype is called “Yamabiko,” which is the name of a famous Japanese mountain spirit. The outside of the car, which is made of carbon fiber, has been changed a lot to increase downforce in both the front and back. The massive diffuser from the back and the big hole in the front air dam stand out.

It was made in a wind tunnel with an active-aero back wing at Honda’s Ohio plant. It is meant to give a full corner grip, like the DRS technology used in Formula One, while reducing drag on the straights, where less downforce is needed. When stopping hard, it also works as an air brake.

There is no information about power, but with the larger turbos, updated engine management, and nearly 200-pound weight loss, it will likely be a fast car. James Robinson will drive it. In 2020, Robinson set a Hybrid class record of 10:01.913 in an NSX. Robinson says the Acura NSX Type S Active Aero Study is the most extreme car the Acura Race Team has ever sent into the sky. To lower our Pikes Peak time, we developed the Acura NSX Type S Active Aero Study.

Acura will fight with the NSX, an Integra, and an Integra Type-S. On that day, Lori Unser will race in the Exhibition class with the new high-performance version of the Integra. Acura’s entry is rounded out by a TLX Type S with an engine and transmission made just for Pikes Peak. It weighs 600 pounds less and has been improved in other ways.

The NSX Type S was a great send-off for a good car that might get less attention than Acura would have liked. It’s good to know that it will get another chance to soak up the sun as it climbs the most famous mountain in the sport.
