When Acura ceased building the second-generation NSX two years ago, everyone expected it would return as an all-electric supercar. Jon Ikeda, CEO of Acura, virtually remarked, “If you notice, we build an NSX when we want to say something.” The first was beautiful. The first and second generations were second. There will likely be another. Acura produced a strange teaser that resembles the electrified NSX, so suspicions continue. Acura calls this its “latest Electric Vision.” The Los Angeles Acura Design Studio created this “high-performance, all-electric model.” More details remain, such as manufacturing schedules or goal needs. However, Acura would only show us this if something was planned. Automaker design teams always have future ideas but rarely reveal them or promote them during the industry’s peak weeks. The teasers don’t show much, but the idea has a mid-engine layout like the NSX, lighting like Acura’s new LMDh prototype race cars, a straight rear fascia with sharp angles, and another full-width light bar. Side-view cameras can replace mirrors. The bright green details indicate electricity, but I could do without them. Honda’s parent corporation has hinted at several electric sports vehicle concepts available by the decade’s end, including this one. Ikeda also claimed that future electric sports vehicles would employ Honda’s e: Architecture EV platform, which is currently being developed, instead of GM’s Ultium architecture, which is used for its most famous EVs. But it’s too early to say how this NSX will fit into future automobile designs. Smart people remember Honda upgraded the V10 to a hybrid supercar during development. This delayed the 2016 delivery of the second-generation NSX for years. We hope this NSX-like car won’t have the same issues on its journey to your road.
