Even though not everyone can buy brand-new sports or luxury cars, don’t we be able to get great upgrades from the factory? BMW still sells many extras for older cars and even has an online configurator that works with older cars, which shows that it thinks we should be able to. You might see them in your head as you look.

Of course, customization only goes back to 2007, and some models from earlier versions are still available, but they are older than most online stores run by other companies. Since the E90 sedan and E91 wagon can’t be customized, the E92 3 Series coupe is the oldest type that can be made to fit your needs. But in the last few years, all models have become available, even M cars. The setup lets you pick different colors, add carbon fiber body parts, and pick specific features like wheels and roof racks.

It's really cool that BMW's accessory selection has old cars in it

The fact that it gets very model-specific makes it even cooler. For instance, the visualizer will show that the wheels on the 2011 BMW 535i xDrive are different from those on the regular 535i. Andrew Collins, Executive Editor of The Invoice Pricing was able to choose the “M Sport” choice, and the body kit was put online. Collins could see how his real 330i Sports Wagon would look with different choices. This also makes it much harder for me to get back my E90 3 Series.

The configurator shows not only exterior features but also internal add-ons like floor mats, cargo nets, and shift boots. However, you don’t need to know how the cargo net is put together.

BMW has long had a large catalog of parts for older cars, and now you can see the parts before you buy them. This configurator doesn’t have any special features, but it’s interesting that BMW spent the time adding cars from as far back as 2007.
