• One of the first modern SUVs was the Dodge Town Wagon, which preceded the Durango.
  • When it comes to being unique, simple, and honest, this model is the best.
  • This huge Dodge has plenty of room for taking surfboards to the beach or camping gear to the lodge.

It’s impressive that the Dodge Durango, which is more than ten years old, still looks and feels modern. You’ll have to go even further back in time to a Dodge Town Wagon, though, if you want a more old-fashioned look.

It's Time To Bid On The 1966 Dodge D100 Town Wagon

This Dodge Town Wagon is for sale on Bring a Trailer, which is owned by Hearst Autos and is similar to Invoice-pricing. It appears to have been made in the 1950s, although it was actually produced in the 1960s. The D100 Town Wagon was a truck-based utility vehicle that preceded the sport utility vehicle (SUV). It’s similar to the Chevy/GMC Suburban or the International Travelall. Town Wagons are rare to find, and this one is even more so because it remains in its original state and features the same slant-six engine that was used when it was manufactured. It also comes with steel wheels and hubcaps featuring the Dodge logo.

In the 1960s, most families drove station wagons or sedans. Even though the highway system is getting better, some roads would scratch an Impala’s driveshaft right off. This might be okay if your family owned a house in the woods, accessible only by a rough forest road.

This large truck is essentially an old Dodge panel van that can carry people. The trunk space in this model is huge, even with the spare tire hidden inside. There are two rows of benches inside. For a cabin stay by yourself, you can fill it up to the brim with camping tools.

The 225-cubic-inch Slant-six engine made 215 pound-feet of torque and 140 horsepower (gross) when it was brand new. The transmission is a standard three-on-the-tree type. As needed, the carburetor has been rebuilt, seals have been replaced, brake and clutch maintenance have been performed, and other mechanical issues have been addressed. Because the slant-six engine is known for being strong, this truck can be driven around town all day.

Even though it’s not a woodie, this is a sun-kissed surf wagon that’s ready to go if you’ve been listening to the Beach Boys all week because of Brian Wilson’s death. The current Durango still features the Hemi V-8 engine and is available in several configurations. In a Dodge Town Wagon, there is no better way to get around.

June 18 is the last day to bid.
