The Jaguar Type 00 idea, which is a two-door coupe, gives us a sneak peek at the company’s planned electric four-door grand tourer for 2026. The Type 00 features a large hood, a fastback roofline, and sharp lines that repeat in a “strikethrough” pattern. The cabin’s design is influenced by architecture, featuring a stone plinth that supports the seats and structural brass bars that separate the interior. There is a lot to say about the Jaguar Type 00 idea. The striking coupe follows Jaguar’s latest redesign, which included a logo refresh and a color-filled film campaign. The Type 00, which was shown off during Miami Art Week, is the last car that shows what the electric Jaguars that will be sold in late 2026 will look like. The first car in the new Jaguar fleet will be a four-door Grand Tourer. It will use the Type 00’s brutalist style. The name is made up of the “Type” classification from older Jaguars and two zeros. The first zero represents the company’s return, with this car being the first of many to come, and the second zero refers to the future lineup’s lack of exhaust emissions. A Shift in Design Even though the car’s features are very different from those of the past, its shape is similar to Jaguar icons, like the E-type’s larger two-door size. As opposed to slinky curves, the Type 00 has strong lines and a solid look. In the middle of Jaguar’s blunt, tall front end is a rectangular grille shape made up of many horizontal parts. This is a common design element called the “strikethrough.” Simple, angular headlights in the shape of a single LED line finish off the look. They make the car look strong and robotic. The cabin looks like a fastback and has openings with gun slits. The word “leaper” is laser-etched into a small, rectangular piece of brass hardware that stands in front of the enormous doors. Instead of side mirrors, Jaguar calls this part an “ingot,” and it opens up to reveal cameras that look backward. Powering the Type 00 are huge, carefully built 23-inch wheels. The lack of a back window and bumpers that curve back to meet a big flat panel makes the Type 00’s back end even sharper. The strikethrough design can be seen again, but this time, it hides the headlights, which are just two thin lines. A panoramic glass wall with a glazed strikethrough finish is on the roof. The Type 00 idea has small logos on the outside. The front fenders include a diminutive “Leaper” emblem, the center of each wheel bears a circular “Jr” insignia, and the grille trim features the new “Jaguar” font. Jaguar says that the fashion and jewelry industries inspired the car’s bold design language. This is meant to make it easy to spot as a Jaguar without having big logos sprayed all over the hood. Theatrical Cabin Design When the butterfly-shaped doors open, you’ll see a beautiful cabin that blends architecture and interior design. The cabin is split into three sections by three metal bars, one at each door, and a 10.5-foot spine running through the middle. The brass parts on the outside and inside of the car have yet to be cleaned, so the look will change over time as the brass oxidizes. The dashboard’s repeated line design comes back and goes all the way to the outside of the car at the base of the windshield. Two huge screens are growing up on either side of the spine. Because technology shouldn’t dominate the inside, Jaguar suggests hiding screens for a “digital detox.” When folded up, the screens reveal crucial information on a narrow screen that spans the width of the window. That being said, this screen is a lot like the full-width screen on the newest Lincoln Nautilus. The Jaguar company says that the piece of travertine stone between the seats supports the chairs. Jaguar’s designers say the idea was first called “Renaissance,” which is what made them choose travertine and brass to represent art and building from that time. The seats are upholstered in a wool textile combination that makes them look like the porch of a very expensive home. The company Jaguar says it wants to change people’s ideas about luxury by using materials that show it’s not just leather accents. It looks like an oval and has a brass square at the bottom. Instead of drive modes, Jaguar came up with a creative way to change the Type 00’s internal experience. They call it “totems.” The “Prism case,” which holds three totems, can be reached from the outside through a powered switch right in front of the doors. This kind of totem is made of brass, travertine, and soapstone. On the main console, totems are put in a slot next to the brass spine. When the white upholstery is opened, a bright blue cubby pops out, which is the same color as the long storage bin in the Cadillac Lyriq’s dashboard. Each symbol changes things, like the images on the screen and the lighting in the room. It gives off smells and sounds that are all on its own. The company wouldn’t say for sure if the totems would be used on production cars, but Jaguar did say that custom totems could be made for certain customers. Jaguar is showing off two Type 00 cars to remember the 1961 Geneva auto show, where the E-type was first shown off with two cars. Jaguar paints one “Miami Pink,” a beautiful shade of Satin Rhodon Rose, to look like an Art Deco building in Miami. For the other unit, the Inception Silver Blue color, which has been named “London Blue,” is meant to honor Jaguar’s home country. Jaguar did not give any information about the Type 00 engine because it is only a design concept. The car company did talk about the JEA platform, though, which will allow its four-door production vehicle to be made when it comes out in late 2026. The four-door Grand Tourer was praised by Jaguar for its “enchanting driving experience, engaging handling, and exemplary ride comfort.” He said that it will have an EPA-rated range of 430 miles. Even though the Type 00 won’t be made right away, the two-door car’s commanding proportions, elegant lines, and luxurious details give us a taste of what to expect from Jaguar’s first road-ready vehicle in two years.
