• Ford plans to make a new three-row electric SUV with a range of 350 miles in 2025.
  • At a Capital Markets Day event, the next car was compared to the Expedition, and it’s likely Ford’s Explorer-sized EV.
  • When Car & Driver asked Ford more about the car, Ford refused to say more.

Ford has been hinting at a future three-row SUV with electric power for a while now. The most current hint came on Monday. A worker at Automotive News posted two photos from Ford’s Capital Markets Day and a story that said the car will come out in 2025 and have a range of 350 miles.

The field is said to have compared the car to the full-size Expedition SUV, but it looked more like the mid-size Explorer. This makes the event and the tweet hard to believe. When Car and Driver called Ford to learn more, a rep refused to say anything.

An EV, the size of the Explorer could help the company make much more money. Internal-combustion cars like the Chevrolet Traverse, Toyota Highlander, Kia Telluride, and, of course, the Explorer all compete in this class. There is little competition in the EV market, but Kia just announced the EV9 SUV, which will go on sale in 2024.

Electric Explorers have been talked about for a long time. Ford says that the electric Explorer will be ready in 2021. It also fits with Ford’s plans to start making electric vehicles (EVs) at its plant in Oakville, Ontario, where it has set aside $1.5 billion to switch from making internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to making EVs.

In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Ford CEO Jim Farley called the new SUV with seven seats “a personal bullet train.” He talked about how the first-generation Mach-Es’ and F-150 Lightnings are very different from the second-generation Mach-Est and F-150 Lightnings.

Even though there aren’t any solid facts about the new car, details like its size, power, range, and price will likely become apparent as the unveiling date gets closer.
