• Because of a problem with the roof molding, Kia is taking back more than 100,000 Sportage and Carnival cars.
  • The recall covers 101,049 vehicles from the model years 2022 to 2024, according to information given to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is about 1% of all recalled vehicles.
  • NHTSA documents say that the roof molding on the affected cars could come loose and separate, which would make an accident more likely.

More than 100,000 Sportage and Carnival cars are being called back by Kia and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Because of the roof molding, there is a recall. Documents sent to the NHTSA say that the roof moldings on the cars in question may separate from the body of the vehicle, which raises the risk of an accident.

Kia is calling back some models of the 100K Sportage and Carnival because the roofs have mold on them

It’s important to note that even though all of the cars are being recalled, they were made in different ways. The Carnival recall affected 60,623 vehicles from 2022 to 2024, some of which were built in Korea. The Sportage recall affects 40,426 vehicles from 2023 to 2023, some of which were built in Georgia. Statistics from the NHTSA show that only 1% of the cars being recalled are actually broken.

Documents filed with the NHTSA say that roof molding can come loose or separate from the vehicle for two reasons: either it was not placed properly when the vehicle was put together, or the retaining clips got in the way of too much roof panel sealant.

Worried owners can check the NHTSA recall page to see if their cars are affected. In March, owners of affected cars will get mail notifications. People whose cars are affected can take them to a Kia dealership to have the roof moldings checked out. If needed, they will be fixed or changed for free.
